St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 6 - Term 4 (Thursday 19 November)
St Jerome’s Primary School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners and Elders, both past and present, of the lands on which this school is located.
Dear Parents and members of our school community
How fortunate we were last Friday with the weather remaining fair and allowing our students and grandparents to move around the classroom and outdoor work areas. This allowed grandparents to see what the children are learning and how they learn in today's world, as learning does not always take place in the classroom! It was wonderful to see so many grandparents at school and to hear how impressed they were with our teachers and the work their grandchildren are doing. Thank you to our wonderful canteen staff and their parent helpers, for providing over 450 home cooked plates of cake and biscuits between 9:30am -11am.
The Aladdin performance during recess added to the excitement of the morning and prompted a boost in ticket sales for the 4th December. From all the feedback from parents and grandparents, we felt that it was a hugely successful morning and we thank all our staff for the wonderful work they are doing in classrooms and their support of this very popular day.
The Aladdin Production is now only two weeks away and there is great excitement around the school. The night promises to be one to remember with lots of pre-show activities to engage the crowd.
This week our Pre-primary and Kindy Orientation evenings were well supported by families. We look forward to welcoming all the new parents and families into our community next year.
It is important to remind families that at all events we are currently still required to maintain social distancing. As our borders are now open, and in light of what has happened in South Australia, we plan from day to day and week to week. The end of year is always a very busy time for schools with concerts, masses and ceremonies taking place across the year levels. We are praying that there will be no interruptions to the events currently planned but we are guided by CEWA and Government guidelines.
On Tuesday 1 December, we have organised a special mass at 9am followed by a Morning Tea in the hall for Mrs O’Toole and invited guests. As numbers in the church and hall are still capped, we are hoping to live stream both the mass and parts of the Morning Tea out to the community via our school Face Book page. More information on this will be coming out in the lead up to this day.
We are holding our annual AGM on Tuesday 25 November at 7pm and parents are welcome to attend. Staffing for 2021 will be announced at this meeting.
A number of parents have asked about booklists for 2021 and these are now on the school website.
Thank you to those parents who have been so supportive of our Drive Through plan. Staggering the time you arrive to pick up your children has certainly reduced the line of traffic on Rockingham Road, but we still have to be aware that if there are more than 4-5 cars queuing from either direction on Rockingham Road, we are required to direct cars to park, to reduce that queue. Please do not take offence if you are asked to park and walk across to collect your children. Where possible, those cars with young children strapped into seats or elderly grandparents, are sent through to Drive Through but this will be determined by the traffic conditions on Rockingham Road at the time. Generally, the closer you leave picking up your children to 3:20pm, the less chance you have of being asked to park! Thank you for your cooperation and support with this.
Aladdin and Picnic on the Grass Community Event
Rehearsals for our end of year production of Aladdin are in full swing and our young cast are very excited as they prepare to wow us all with their efforts! Tickets for the production will be available via a link further into the Principal’s Post today.
Join us from 5pm on the school oval for a picnic. Bring along your own picnic; or enjoy a sausage sizzle; delights from Coogee Continental Deli; The Mobile Gelato Cart or The Cake Nook. Popcorn, Fairy Floss and Glow Sticks will also be on sale! There will be pre-show entertainment including magicians and Balloon Artists before the performance begins at 7pm.
This should be a wonderful evening for our whole community, not just families of the cast. This is an opportunity for you and your family to see a great live production and spend time prior to the start of Aladdin with Mrs O’Toole, enjoying a picnic on the grass. As this will be the last community event attended by Mrs O’Toole before she retires, we encourage all our families to make this night a night to remember for all concerned.
Annual School Community Meeting and School Board and P&F Nominations 2021
A reminder that our ANNUAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY MEETING will be held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday 25 November at 7pm. This is a shared meeting between the School Board and the P&F. The purpose of the meeting is to report to the parent body on the activities of the Board and P&F during the current year, to outline plans for the future and to conduct elections to each body for the following year. The School Board will also present its draft budget for 2021.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the evening.
P&F
The roles now vacant and for which we are seeking nominations are the Vice president, Secretary and Treasurer. If you enjoy organizing events or just want to help make a difference in the community, then send though your completed nomination form to the office by Monday 23 November.
Board
We have three Board positions open for nominations this year.
If you would like to nominate yourself for one of these roles please send though your completed nomination form to the office by Monday 23 November.
We would certainly like to see you at this meeting and we also encourage you to nominate for a position on either the Board or the P&F. Involvement with the School Board or P&F is very rewarding and gives the opportunity to be closely associated with the school. Below are the relevant nomination forms. You are free to nominate yourself or some other person; however if you nominate another person, you must obtain that person's signature on the nomination form.
Voting for all positions will take place at the AGM on 25 November at 7pm.

Come and get your Kindy/Pre-Primary/Year 1 uniforms for next year! It’s at this time of year that we start to encourage thoughts around uniforms for the following year. The requirements list is available on the school website but if you have any queries at all call in to the shop or phone through on 9499 9525. We’re open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8.15am to 3.30pm. If Kindy/Pre-Primary/Year 1 uniforms can be organised before the back to school rush in January it creates a better flow 😊. There’s a great range of colours available right now in our Kindy/Pre-Primary shirts. Lay-by is available too.
E-mail and phone orders are available for everyone – you will need to know sizes required and provide your child’s name and class and card details for payment. Goods are placed in the class message basket which is usually collected every day and that means we’re not interrupting classes with deliveries. If your order is large then we’ll place it at Reception for collection.
