Grandparent's Day!

Big picture
It was great to spend time with grandparents and special relatives on Friday morning. It was a morning to celebrate love and learning! Thanks to everyone who joined us and thank you to our Lakeview PTO for the coffee and doughnuts.

We would like to thank you for your engagement at conferences. We had so many families meet with our teachers. I always think that something should be different as a result of conferences. That might be student effort, student behavior, a teacher's understanding of what a student is going through, etc. Whatever your child's teacher talked about, I hope that you are asking your child about it on a daily basis right now. One conversation is usually not enough. We also hope that the MAP test data that was shared with 1st through 5th grade families gave you a better understanding of your student's current achievement and growth. We love to work with families, and we encourage you to contact your child's teacher anytime with concerns.

5th Grade Camp Meeting

Each year, our 5th grade students go to an overnight camp. To prepare for this experience, we are hosting a parent/guardian meeting for families of current 5th grade students. You can get your questions answered about camp and fill out the paperwork that is needed all in one place. (There is quite a bit of paperwork to fill out that requires a notary to witness your signature - we will even provide a notary at the meeting to make this easier for you!)

The meeting will be on Thursday, November 14th from 6-7 p.m. in the Lakeview library. If you have questions ahead of time, please contact your child's 5th grade teacher.

Food Drive - Thank You!

Our food drive this week collected 1301 items for Human Concerns. That is an amazing amount of food that is staying right in our area. Thank you to everyone for your donations this week. If you still have anything you would like to donate, you may send it to school on Monday. Special thanks to student council and Ms. Wilke for their work to coordinate the food drive!

October is "Keeping Kids Safe Online" month

As a parent, I know that this is a part of the "job" that is getting more and more difficult. Please see this website to learn more about keeping our kids safe online. Here's an interesting fact for all of us to remember: The terms of use for nearly every social media service says you need to be at least 13 years old to have an account. That means that if you are following the rules, no student at Lakeview should have a Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or any other social media account. These rules are meant to protect our children, and they make the perfect excuse to say "no" when our kids ask.

In South Milwaukee, none of our elementary schools allow Halloween costumes. Please do not send students to school in costume for Halloween. Thank you for understanding!
