DID YOU KNOW?
Over the past two years, our District has started to integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into the classroom. UDL is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning based on scientific insights as to how students learn. Overall, the goal of UDL is to continue to treat our students as individuals based on their needs. UDL recognizes learner variability and is a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone. UDL is not a single “one size fits all” solution, but rather flexible approaches to teaching and learning. With UDL, learning opportunities are optimized for all students.

60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
Strongsville High School features a new course, which is preparing our students for “life after SHS.” AP Seminar is co-taught by Mr. Black (Social Studies) and Ms. Boron (Science), providing students with individual and group projects that develop their research, teamwork, and presentation skills. AP Seminar also provides opportunities for students to earn college credit through the end of course AP exams. Strongsville is one of a few Districts in our area to feature this course. Click HERE for this week’s episode, as we learn more about AP Seminar and the impact it is having on our students.

The last operating levy for our District was passed in 2007. If passed, this operating levy will cost $23 per month for a $100,000 home. Click HERE for additional information on this proposed levy.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. SUE HERB, EDUCATIONAL AIDE AT SURRARRER ELEMENTARY
Mrs. Sue Herb has been working in our District since 2001. Starting out as a playground aide, she has worked at several buildings including Drake, Allen, and Kinsner. Mrs. Herb is now an educational aide at Surrarrer Elementary, working with 2nd, 3rd, and 5th graders on a daily basis. A long time community member, her husband and two children are SHS alumni. Mrs. Herb earned her undergraduate degree at Marietta College and worked in analytics before starting her “second career” in education.
She remembers some of the challenges she faced in school while growing up and keeps that in mind when working with current Surrarrer students. “Many of our elementary students have a sincere desire to learn. I love working with them, bringing our their passion, and inspiring them to succeed. I often see my own struggles as a youngster in our students, and if I am able to help them overcome their hurdles, that’s what makes my job such a satisfying one.”
She adds, “I am fortunate to work with a great staff at Surrarrer. It is the best feeling to be a part of this dedicated team, and be a part of the development of our students.”
Thank you Mrs. Herb for working with our Surrarrer students and being a part of this devoted elementary school team!
