Hard Work Pays Off

As a kid, I remember being kind of sad when we celebrated Labor Day. For a lot of us, it marked the end of summer, the start of school, shorter days, and the beginning of the marathon that is called the school year. Over time, we crammed more days into the school year, and we began to start school in August instead of September. From archaic rules about white pants after Labor Day to really digging into the hard work of school, summer is truly over after that holiday passes.

Now, as an adult who has worked in education more than half her life, I still get kind of sad to watch summer go. In honor of that, I researched a little bit about the origins of Labor Day, and here is what the trusty internet says: "Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894."

To think, children as young as 5 or 6 worked 12 hour days in the blazing heat before the Industrial Revolution! Lucky for us, our children are protected from the conditions our great-grandparents endured, but that isn't to say our tiny adults don't work hard! We have watched them work hard in class, toil through practices (some for the first time playing school sports!), and play those notes over and over again to learn that trumpet. While they might not be sewing buttons on workshirts for ten cents an hour, they are working hard, and we know that diligence to their education is going to pay off. Thank you, those who love these kiddos, for encouraging them to keep up the good work!

A few notes: Progress reports will come out (posted in Skyward) next Thursday, so be on the lookout for those. Scrimmages and games kick off soon, and tardy policies are in full force.

Teacher of the Week

Each week, here in Eagle Nation, we honor a teacher who has contributed to learning at CLIS in a profound way. We like to do a shout out to parents, too, just so you can know how amazing our staff is! This week's Teacher of the Week is Mrs Maribel Chacon. Mrs. Chacon teaches Spanish, and is our Eagle Cheerleading Sponsor. She creates a spirited learning environment, both when she's in her classroom or on the sidelines! Thanks, Mrs. Chacon!

Change in CCISD COVID Mitigation Level

Dear Parents and Staff:

The Clear Creek Independent School District is monitoring the number of COVID-19 cases as well as absences due to illness and self-reported quarantine. In accordance with the 2021-2022 CCISD Health Mitigation Protocol, the district moved to Stage 3 due to a community outbreak of COVID-19 and the number of active cases districtwide is above 1% of the student/staff population. The third indicator regarding attendance remains within the historical range.

Here are the additional measures we have put in place.

· Increased pandemic cleaning across Clear Creek ISD which will provide enhanced cleaning in schools with positive COVID-19 cases.

· Air filters have been upgraded systemwide to capture smaller respiratory droplets.

· Air conditioning run times have been extended to provide additional air exchanges throughout the day.

· Reopened the form for parents to indicate whether their child is required to wear a face covering as this will allow campus staff to monitor the use of face coverings.

· Face coverings will be more visibly available in classrooms and common areas for student use.

· Elementary classrooms will move to temporary school-to-home (remote learning) if a cluster of cases is identified.

· All schools have been notified to reassess instructional settings, classroom seating arrangements, recess patterns, and cafeteria spaces to provide as much distance as possible.

· As practicable, meetings and some school-based events may be held virtually, outdoors, or temporarily postponed.

On August 19, 2021, The Texas Education Agency issued public health guidance for school districts. The Texas Education Agency states that school systems may only exclude students from a school setting if they have tested positive for the virus or exhibiting symptoms of illness. In accordance with TEA directives, if a student is determined to be a close contact and is not exhibiting signs of illness, it is up to the parent/guardian to determine whether to keep their student home. We encourage families to consider the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for close contacts, especially if the person with COVID-19 is someone within the home and the student has not been fully vaccinated.

As a reminder, parents should be conducting a Self-Health Assessment on students prior to school each day. To make the reporting process easy for families, please log into Skyward Family Access (www.ccisd.net/familyaccess) and complete the self-screener on the homepage. If you answer yes to any symptoms, keep your child at home. The completed self-screener form will be sent directly to the school nurse for follow up. The absence will be excused.

Clear Creek ISD will launch remote teleconferencing as early as September 7, 2021 to support the continuation of learning for students who are home temporarily due to a medical condition, COVID-19, or quarantine. Remote teleconferencing will be available for core subjects in all grade levels based on an hourly program schedule. More details will be released Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 12 p.m. through a livestream on www.ccisd.net/live and updated on www.ccisd.net.

Additionally, the deadline to apply for a full-time Virtual Learning Program is 11:59 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021. The CCISD Virtual Learning Program is open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 as this is the age group that is not yet eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Visit www.ccisd.net/virtuallearning for application and details.

Clear Creek ISD will remain open for learning.

We are asking students and staff to wear face coverings indoors, stay home if they are ill, and wash their hands frequently.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Eric Williams, Ed.D.

Pilsner Academy is partnering with Timber Creek Golf Club

Pilsner Academy OP36 Survey Link

David is considering starting with two classes - the class size will be determined by demand and space availability.

1) The beginner level class will focus on 7 to 11 year olds new to golf and wanting to learn the game.

2) The intermediate level class will focus on 12 to 15 year olds:

9th grade players - those players which are on the JV high school team and/or those golfers which just missed making the team but are wanting to improve their golf skills - Consider this as a "Player Development Program". Coaches, if your team members are interested in joining the program, would you count this as "attending Practice" as part of the team?

Coaches, please forward to any parents you feel their child could benefit from this program.

8th grade players - those players in 8th grade and are wanting to improve their skills in advance of the Spring 2022 golf season.

Our initial program will be a 12 week "semester" of golf classes along with "on course" activities. Tentative dates are to begin on September 20 (TBD) through Dec 13.

The 1 hour Class will be on Monday afternoons at Timber Creek (see the sample class objectives below) either at 4:15 or 5:30.

The "On Course" 9 hole playing activity will be on alternating Tuesday afternoons.

The semester will be comprised of monthly increments of SIX golf related activities:

- FOUR classes each on Monday afternoons and

- TWO 9-hole playing activities will be every other Tuesday afternoon.

Cost will be approximately $150 (yet to be finalized), there could be some other administrative costs included (TBD).

Class objectives: Each week will focus on ONE skill based activity.

PERFORMANCE - the on course playing activity

Dress Code Information

Unsure about what is acceptable dress at CLIS? We follow the CCISD Dress code, which can be found here. Remember that we strive to provide a culture where all students can achieve high levels of learning. If attire is so distracting that students can't learn, we might call you to bring them a change of clothes. While we encourage creativity and individuality, we also want to preserve the learning environment.

Lunch, Classrooms, and Masks

As we navigate through the expectations for a safe return to school regarding COVID-19, we want to let parents know that we encourage students to wear masks, we provide them upon request, and we apply social distancing where it is possible.

We have redesigned the cafeteria for lunch, allowing 6 students at a table instead of the 10 we started the year with. Color sections are still in effect, and students will still be able to earn socially distanced free seating through their cafeteria behavior. Same goes with technology, and all three lunches earned using their phones at lunch last week!

Athletics Information

In case you haven't completed your athletics physical, the information can be found below. If your child plans to play any winter or spring sports, they will still need one on file. Tryouts for those sports will come sooner than you think, so it's best to schedule those physicals now.

The following must be completed for your child prior to the first day of tryouts or practice:

1. Completed 2021-2022 physical form is scanned to the coach (scan only the side signed by the doctor).

2. All Rank One and district forms for 2021-2022 are complete. If your child has asthma, the asthma form is also required.

Athletic Forms Link

If new to our program, please create an account first: Rank One Sports Parent Access

Students in the Athletics class must have all forms completed by the first day of school August 17th.

Students are not permitted to participate without the physical being completed.

After Friday, August 20th, students without a physical will be moved into Health Fitness Class.

Both Athletics and Health Fitness uniforms will be sold for $25 a set (t-shirt and shorts). Cash or check is acceptable. Make checks out to Clear Lake Intermediate (please include name, address, and phone number on the check).

Questions about Discipline?

We have had some questions about our discipline policy, both district wide, and campus specific. Here is the link to the CCISD Student Code of Conduct.

Absent? Need to turn in an excuse?

Absent excuses will be accepted through Skyward this year, and those instructions will be included here soon. We are encouraging parents to email or fax any absent notes to Ms. Bourg, our attendance clerk, at EagleAttendance@ccisd.net or fax to (281)284-3207. This is in lieu of bringing the note in person. Please make sure your signature is on any notes you submit.

Reminder that all 7th graders are required to receive the Tdap and Meningococcal Vaccination. You may fax records to (281)284-3207, email them to hjaeger@ccisd.net, or bring a copy to the school. Please contact nurse Jaeger at (281)284-3213 if you have any questions.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up

Drop off and pick up at CLIS allows for several options that parents can use. Through an agreement with St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, parents can park in their side parking lot located on the El Camino Real side of their building in the afternoons to wait for their children. In addition, we allow students to be dropped off in the front by the flagpole, as well as the back parking lot by the gyms. Please make sure your students know where you will be picking them up BEFORE school gets out. See the map below to decide what's best for your family. PLEASE NOTE - IN MORNINGS AND AFTERNOONS, PARENTS SHOULD NOT USE THE BUS LANE LOCATED ON EL CAMINO REAL.
