October Update

A message from your Cen10 School Counselors

September in Review

As September comes to a close, the school counseling department is happy to report that they have met with every freshman, junior, and senior through either a classroom presentation or an individual meeting. As we move into the first half of October, sophomores have two exciting days ahead of them with the school counseling team. We know that you wonder, "how do they do it all?" Well, through our intentional targeted classroom curriculum, we spent time engaging our students in lessons that had them explore life after high school through www.CaliforniaColleges.edu.

"Was that all?" Nope! In addition to those classroom lessons, the school counseling team met with every single senior to discuss their individual plan for life after high school and provided resources to help with the transition.

"Surely, that was all you could fit in right?" We can see how you would think that, but student mental health and wellness has been a top priority for us. In addition to teaching mindfulness exercises to all of our students, we have two targeted Stress & Anxiety Groups running for students who wanted to learn more ways to cope with the pressures of returning to school, managing workloads, and mastering both prioritization and time management.

Your school counselors are very strategic and intentional with the approaches to academics, post-secondary, and social-emotional health and wellness. We are excited to share with you what we have done and what we have planned in the coming months. Watch for our monthly newsletters and refer back to any issues that you may have missed along the way.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor. We are honored to be on this journey with you.

Welcome to fall!

A Look Into October

The month of October will be our most exciting month, yet! College Kickoff is officially here. College Kickoff focuses on College and Career Readiness. Here at Centennial, we are dedicated to preparing you all for your post-secondary aspirations (college or workforce) and want to celebrate with you and the many different opportunities that you have at your fingertips.

Does your child know what they want to do when they grow up? If not, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test is a test that is administered by the military to help students identify skills and careers that they would be very good at. The is a common misconception that only those interested in the military should take this test. Sure, a recruiter might call, but when they do, your child can say, "yes! I would love to explore military careers" or "no, I wanted to take it to learn more about jobs that are out there for me based on my skillset." We strongly encourage students to take it to learn more about their skillset and would celebrate your child signing up today!

Launching Your College Application

California Colleges has become a key component in a student's application process. As students prepare to apply to their respective Californa College, they will launch their application through CaliforniaColleges.edu. Once an application has been submitted, school counselors can then track the student's completion of both their college application and Finacial Aid application.
