From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Welcome to all of our incoming 9th grade students and parents receiving the Band Weekly Newsletter for the first time! We are so glad to have you as a part of the Winter Park Band!
Thank you all very much for tuning in to the first (and hopefully only) ever virtual Band Banquet! Though we weren't able to do it in person, I'm happy we still had the chance to recognize the accomplishments of all of our Winter Park Band students from this past school year, and honor those who have and continue to go above an beyond both in their musicianship and service. Congratulations again to all on a successful 2019-2020 school year, and best of luck to the class of 2020 in your future pursuits. I encourage you to keep in touch however you are able - email, visits at concerts, social media, etc.
Thank you to everyone who completed the Band Registration Form this week! We will be working this week to upload and edit everyone's information in Charms. As always, you can access your profile on Charms 24/7 and edit any information that may change like email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, etc. Also, it is not too late to register for Band for next school year! Please check with your fellow students and families who are planning to be a part of the Band program next year to see if they have already registered or may need assistance with the registration form.
UNIFORM, MUSIC FOLDER, INSTRUMENT/EQUIPMENT RETURN
Every current student in the Winter Park Band must sign up for a time to return school-owned items this coming Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Please see below for more detailed information.
MARCHING PERCUSSION PLACEMENT AUDITIONS - WEDNESDAY, 5/13
Please see the event above for the link to the sign-up sheet and information on how to join for your audition. If any students are interested in auditioning but haven't made it to any of the help sessions, please contact Mr. Clemente as soon as you can!
BAND ZOOM MEETINGS THIS WEEK
We again will be hosting Zoom meetings for all students this week on Tuesday, May 12. Students - If this time conflicts with another class that has previously scheduled a meeting, please let Mr. Clemente and Mr. Smith know ASAP. Otherwise, we will expect to see you on Tuesday afternoon.
Band Zoom Meetings, Tuesday 5/12:
Symphonic Band: 1:30 PM (Attendance will be taken, participation grade given)
Wind Symphony: 2 PM (Attendance will be taken, participation grade given)
Concert Band: 2:30 PM (Attendance will be taken, participation grade given)
Instructions on how to join the meetings will be posted to Google Classroom. Looking forward to seeing you all!
This year, more than other years, it is crucial that our Band families don't completely "tune out" to communication both from the Directors and the Band Booster Board. Our situation is constantly evolving and changing, and we all need to stay adequately connected so together we can plan for the school year to come.
I hope you continue to stay healthy and safe,
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President
Week of May 10, 2020
Hello band families. Thank you to everyone who attended, planned, and participated in the first virtual band banquet ever! Congratulations to our wonderful seniors and all of the fantastic and dedicated band students. It was fun to celebrate a wonderful year virtually if we could not be together in person.
A special word of thanks this year to the Band Booster Board, which has been so supportive of all things bandJ It takes a dedicated team, so a very special thanks to Mary Bernard, Stacey Cox, Lori Gavin, Keith Gavin, Mary Beth Johnston, Melanie Maulfair, Jay McPherson, Kimberly Mueller, Ana Nazarian, Heather Ribaric, Sara Robinson, Kim Schmitt, and Beth Visconti for all of their hard work and tireless support this year!! Thank you also to all of the other extremely dedicated parent volunteers, who have given their time, positivity, and energy to the band program. We could not do it without you, and you are all appreciated! Please be on the lookout for next year’s Band Booster Board information/election form (we usually do that at registration night) or email. There will also be information about vacancies if you are interested in filling a role next year.
It’s hard to believe the year is almost over, but please stay tuned for information on next year’s calendar. Don’t forget to check the Charms calendar regularly and subscribe to that calendar so it updates automatically on your calendar (directions on the website) if you are interested. Have a great week everyone. Happy Mother’s Day!

UNIFORM, MUSIC FOLDER, INSTRUMENT/EQUIPMENT RETURN
Please use the link below to sign up for a time to return uniforms and equipment to the main campus Band room.
Uniform and Equipment Return Signup Sheet
This week, the Band room will be open at select times for all students to return school-owned uniforms, music folders, and equipment. Students will also have the ability to access their Band lockers to retrieve any item left before the Stay At Home order. The dates and times the Band room will be open are as follows:
Monday, May 11: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Tuesday, May 12: 6:00 – 8 :00 PM
Wednesday, May 13: 11:00 AM – 2 :00 PM
Please only enter onto campus through the Bellwood Dr. gate, adjacent to A lot on the southwest corner of campus. We ask that all who come onto campus be prepared with a face covering and practice social distancing when not inside your vehicle. If a student needs to access their Band locker, please also wear gloves when opening the locker. Also, please wait in your vehicle until either Mr. Clemente or Mr. Smith let you know it is OK to come into the Band room.
The following items are to be returned by ALL grade levels:
- CONCERT UNIFORM (does not need to be dry-cleaned)
- Tuxedo Jacket
- Tuxedo Pants
- Concert Dress
- MUSIC FOLDERS AND ALL MUSIC
- Concert Folder (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony)
- Jazz Folder (Freshman Jazz Band, Jazz Ens. II, Jazz Ens. I)
- SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS/EQUIPMENT
- Seniors: All instruments/equipment checked out to current 12th grade students must be returned to the Band room in good working order. Take everything out of your case except for the instrument and any school-issued mouthpiece.
- Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen: All instruments/equipment must be returned to school for inspection by the directors. If you then wish to check-out the instrument/equipment for summer practice, the directors will give you an Instrument Check-Out Form that must be filled out and then signed by a parent/guardian. If you are not checking out the instrument for the summer, your instrument will remain at school.
The current situation we are living with brings many individual challenges to each family in our Band program. Please know that we understand everyone’s situation is different and can be constantly changing. If you are unable to make it to campus on any of the three dates listed above, please contact both Mr. Clemente and Mr. Smith immediately to open up a channel of communication. We are willing to work with individual families if there is a need to set up a different time for uniforms, folders, and equipment to be dropped off.
I look forward to seeing you all!!

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS
Thank you to all of the students who have been diligent in keeping up with the weekly assignments. Mr. Smith and I know that there are many new challenges and seemingly constant changes that come with being at home and completing your classwork for all 7 classes each week. Now especially with all of your classes being held digitally for the remainder of the school year, it is even more important that you do not procrastinate and allow late work to build up. Students should be reading the newsletter weekly, as well as checking Google Classroom at least once per day.
If you are struggling to complete your work when assignments are due, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help you! An issue with internet connectivity or other emergencies at home do not affect your grade, so long as there is communication with the Directors.
This is all very much different than "normal school," and especially for us in Band class when we can't all get together and be an ensemble as our class is meant to operate. In the meantime, the skills you are individually building through the digital assignments will become incredibly useful to you as a musician and help the Band as a whole. Always keep in mind, "a rising tide raises all boats".
