Te Karere a te Tumuaki - Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening).
We enjoyed supporting 'Gumboot Friday' today. Thanks very much those who have kindly donated to the 'I Am Hope' charity. I Am Hope raise money to provide much needed counselling services for adolescent New Zealanders. If you missed the link earlier - show your support and don't forget to text 'BOOT' to 469 to make an instant $3 donation (cheaper than a coffee! #GUMBOOTUPNZ.
We farewell Brooke Gibson and Rodney today. Brooke is a student teacher and has been working in Kourarau Syndicate for varying sections of time this year. She has done an amazing job and now continues her studies, working in different schools for the remainder of 2021. Thank you Brooke for being 100% committed to the job - we have loved having you with us. Brooke donated a lovely apple tree to the school and provided the most amazing morning tea - also a talented cake maker we see. The tree is a welcome addition to our new orchard area.
Rodney has done his dash at Gladstone School - he is getting a bit too comfortable here and is heading off to the Masons house to care for a brood of chickens. We will miss Rodney as he really captured the essence of our cool country school. Watch this space for a replacement - a goat and some chickens are the latest suggestions.
Kia pai tō mutunga wiki,

Policies To Review
We have a few suggestions of our own to add and update this policy. This includes taking out reference to community gatherings that don't report on progress and are more of an opportunity to catch up with each other. We will add in the check and connect meetings at the start of the year, change the mid year 3-Way Conferences to the start of Term 3 and to add a statement along the lines of: The school is proactive in bringing to a parent’s attention any continued instances of a child not achieving to their potential, or not attaining the levels that are expected of them for their individual level of development.

Community Courses Coming Up
Hi everyone in Tractorland. We have several programmes which we offer at Taratahi, and the following ones are starting in the near future:
· 1/ Ag. Contracting. This will be the 5th such course we have run, giving new tractor drivers a "leg up", This course is from ground level, we firstly have a Health and Safety induction, a great first Aid course, WT and Forklift endorsements (With OSH). We then introduce tractors, giving as much seat time on a range of tractors up to Vario and Powershift transmissions. With the tractors we cover daily servicing and maintenance. We go through to attaching implements, safely. This is a 4 week course.
· 2/ 102 "Step Up". This course is to upskill first year drivers onto the next level of implements ie from raking to baling, cultivating to ploughing or drilling. We also aim to introduce self-propelled choppers, mowers and combines. As much as participants will be introduced to the hardware, time will also be put into the responsibility side i.e. management of a team or workplace. This is a 1 week course.
**For any information or enrolment please contact me (John) on the below phone number. We have funding to run these courses so let us upskill your next seasons driver(s) Proposed first course 14-18 June **
· 3/ Women in Agriculture: Hopefully running next week (1,2,3 June) with more courses to follow depending on interest levels. This is a chance for women to come learn about what men may consider to be basic, but never bothered to tell you. Such things as backing a trailer, putting up an electric fence, sharpening a knife, amongst other things. A low pressure enjoyable 3 day course, lunch provided.
· All of these course are funded under the Covid response fund, and accommodation and meals can be covered.
Please contact John on 0273110008 ASAP for registration or any queries.
