Banned Books Month

Big image
Libraries, including ours, confront this issue each and every year-censorship. The American Library Association (ALA) posted "The Top Ten Challenged Books for 2016". A few of them the physical and virtual library shelves. It's imperative to know your rights & responsibilities as students on this issue. Our library staff follows the ALA principle of allowing parent objections towards an individual child checking out a book, but not infringing on the rights of other students. CJUSD vets books for school curriculum which differs from recreational reading.

The CHS library will host a NCAA style book banning decade tournment throughout the month of Ocotber where students will pick the winners for each bracket. Ms. Geltch and Mr. Calderon will purchase the final four winners. A first & second lunch drawing will occur on Halloween Open Mike Friday October 27, 2017 with the winners receiving a copy of the top selection.

CHS Makerspace Activities

Makerspaces are hands-on applications for developing information literacy. The CHS library will host various activiites during the month of October to accomplish this objective.
