Our Vision and Mission
MISSION: Instilling values and providing opportunities that empower learners for lifelong success.
At DLB, we value respect, responsibility, honesty, accountability, teamwork, and empathy.
From the office
From Mr. Bachmeier, School Superintendent
Season’s Greetings from the desk of Mr. Bachmeier. Here we are nearing the halfway point of the school year, and I think to myself, “Wow this year is going fast!” December is a busy time of year here at DLB. We begin the month with musical programs, and the beginning of boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, and wrestling seasons. I believe the skills and lessons that the students learn in extracurriculars are a vital portion of their public education. Support from our community has been great for our students this year, and I hope to see it continue for our winter extracurricular seasons.
Even though we have a shorter month, school is in full swing and semester tests are upon us. Homework, tests, and class projects are very important. Please remind your child to stay on task, and not get distracted by the upcoming winter break. We are having semester tests this year, as we have in years past. The semester testing schedule is part of this newsletter and I ask that you please take a moment to note how this schedule is followed. Our winter break will begin at the end of the school day Wednesday, December 21, 2022, and our second semester classes will begin on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
With the semester coming to a close, I would like to remind all parents about the ability to check children’s grades, fees owed, and lunch balances at https://des-lacs-burlington.ps.state.nd.us/public/. If you need help in this process, please do not hesitate to call the office at 725-4334. Also, if there has been a change in your finances and you would like to apply for free and reduced lunch, this option is available throughout the year. Please contact the office if you need an application.
Finally, this month’s quote comes from Benjamin Franklin, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” With the state of today’s economy, I found this quote to be very relatable in the sense that we should be looking to invest in our youth and their education as it supports us as a nation in the future!
Take care and have a blessed Christmas break.
From Mrs. Andersen (PK-6 Principal)

National Honor Society Information
Membership criteria
To be selected to the National Honor Society, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. They are also required to complete an information form showing their interest and desire to be a part of this organization. The information forms are reviewed and selections are based on a variety of factors, which can be reviewed in the bylaws linked to the website (see below).
For students considering NHS as an option in the coming year, we highly recommend keeping track of community service hours over the summer and into the next school year. The current bylaws require a minimum of 10 service hours per year for all members. Other requirements include attending all monthly meetings, carrying goals of scholarship, leadership, character, and service, and actively participating in group projects through the year.
Information forms will be shared with eligible students in January 2023. For more information, please contact the chapter advisor, Mary Eldredge Sandbo at the high school.
