Welcome!
My name is Jeff Mlsna, I am the new Director of Secondary Education. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you and let you know how excited, and proud I am to once again be a part of this great community. My wife and I have two children who will be part of the SPAPSD family starting in the fall and I hope you are as excited about the upcoming school year as we are!
I am an alum of UWSP and previously spent 11 great years as a junior high teacher, coach, and technology integration specialist with the Stevens Point Area Public School District before accepting a position as Assistant Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Growth in a large district in Colorado. After spending 7 years in Colorado I am excited to return home to continue raising my family.
Stevens Point has always had a special place in my heart. It is my belief that my past experiences will help me support this district in being a leader of public education in the state. I am also very much looking forward to working on the implementation of our new math curriculum and energizing our work around professional learning communities at the secondary level.
As the Director of Secondary Education I am excited to be the voice for our incredible secondary schools. While I am looking forward to meeting our parents and students over the coming year, if in the meantime parents have any questions, I can be reached at jmlsna@pointschools.net or via phone at (715) 345-5445.
2022-23 Junior High Student Schedules
As we look to the start of the 2022-23 school year I wanted to share an important message with all of you on behalf of both Ben Franklin and P.J. Jacobs Junior High Schools regarding class schedules and schedule change requests.
Final student schedules will be available on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 4:00 pm via Skyward Family Access. Schedules obtained prior to this date will not be accurate. Prior to August 19th, classes and course enrollments change often based on scheduling conflicts, staffing and new enrollments.
Once schedules are released on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 4:00 pm, students and families will have the opportunity to review them and if any schedule changes need to be requested, students and families can make these requests by reaching out to your School Counselor or Social Worker during your school's Open House event.
Junior High Open House
The Junior High Open House event provides an opportunity for families to tour the school, place items in student lockers, as well as meet with Administration and Student Service personnel. Open House is a voluntary opportunity for ALL junior high students (grades 7-9) to visit the school and receive their schedules before the first day of classes.
Here are some important items to help make Open House successful:
Students can go on a self-guided tour of the building.
Students are encouraged to practice opening lockers (multiple times!).
Students may drop off any school supply items in their lockers before the start of school.
Students may follow their schedule to help them locate their classroom and plan out appropriate locker stops throughout the day
Backpacks will not be allowed in classrooms.
Schedule Change Requests
Students will be allowed to request schedule changes for the first FIVE days of the semester. Students looking to request schedule changes may make these requests by reaching out to your School Counselor/Social Worker during your buildings scheduled Open House.
Please note that the procedures in place at the Junior Highs are different from SPASH. If you have students enrolled across multiple buildings please refer to their specific timelines and requirements.
