Healesville Primary School
NEWSLETTER
Week 40- Monday 16 December 2019
From the Principal's desk…
It is so hard to believe that the last week of school for 2019 is upon us.
I would like to thank the students, staff and school community for welcoming me to Healesville Primary and for all of the hard work that has been undertaken this year towards running a school. The students have worked very hard throughout the year to continue to grow, develop and learn. Our teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly for this to happen. Our school community has been behind the school throughout the year supporting each and every one of us.
This week I have been very lucky to have taken two groups of students to two of our local aged care facilities, Holmwood and Monda Lodge. Our students were amazing – it was truly wonderful to see how delighted the residents were and how engaging and happy our students were delivering the gifts that had been so generously donated by the school community.
On Saturday morning Marlene Williams, Fenna Hogg and myself went to the Chirnside Country Club along with Howard Stephens to celebrate with Sharon Stephens (Lolly) who received a Certificate of Recognition from our Federal Member, Tony Smith for her amazing volunteer work. She is an ever present helper in the school, Lolly gardens, works in our classrooms, cleans up after everyone, cooks and makes lunches for our students as well as morning teas for the staff – and she is our crossing lady. So, congratulations Sharon!!!! We are all very appreciative of what you continually do for our school.
One of the other recent events I have been lucky to have been involved in was the selection process of our school captains and house captains for 2020. We have been very fortunate to have had outstanding school and house captains this year. I am sure our 2020 captains will also be amazing.
Our new captains for 2020 are:
School Captains :
Charli Litchfield, & Archer Kirby
House Captains:
Yarra - Chloe Boeder & Kailee Short
Myer - Emily Anderson-Hunter & Abbey Kells
Chum - Matilda Byron & Riley Bode
Watts - Paisley Stock & Denzel Parsons
Our final week:
Monday: Transition session – students to wear uniforms
Tuesday: Captains Day and Hot Dog Lunch – students can wear free dress
Students should bring around $10 for their purchases, Hot Dogs will be $2 and most items will be between 20 cents to $2 (small change will be appreciated)
Wednesday: Transition session – students to wear uniforms
Thursday: Whole School Fun Day – students should wear sports uniforms and runners.
Friday: We will hold our final assembly for the year at 9:10 in the hall. Each class will be performing a Christmas Carol and our Grade Six students will sing their graduation song. We would love to see you there so you too can enjoy the celebration.
Friday 20th December - Early Finish - NO Bus on this day.
Please note that school finishes at 1:30pm on the last day of the year. We will also have a guard of honour for our grade six students leaving from the BER, starting at around 1:15pm.
Class Structure and Teachers for 2020:
I am very happy to have undertaken the principal role and I am very excited to continue to move the school forward in 2020. It has been in some ways a tumultuous year for Healesville Primary with a change of leadership which for a while brought a period of uncertainty for all, including myself. However the school is now ready to grow and develop with new leadership and teaching teams for 2020. We have had an influx of enrolments very recently and this has meant we have had to change our school structure from what was originally planned. There have also been unplanned changes to our teaching staff. None of this is ideal at this stage of the year. Our structure and staff for 2020 is unfortunately not quite set as we have interviews on Monday and Tuesday for a class teacher for grade two. We hope to have this decided on Wednesday and will notify the school community via dojo.
The following is our list of grades and teachers. Students will participate in two transition sessions this week one on Monday and another on Wednesday. Tonight when they come home from school they will be able to tell you who their teacher is, where their classroom is located and which of their friends they were lucky enough to be placed with.
Our Class teachers are:
Prep B - Mrs Sharyn Borg
Prep H - Miss Georgia Horsley
1/2 G - Mrs Sharon Gellert (Mon - Thurs) + Mrs Bek Clarke (Fri)
2 ? - to be confirmed
3/4 B - Ms Meagan Bult
3/4 V - Miss Catherine Vermeltfoort
3/4 K - Mr Chris Kent
5/6 H - Mrs Rosie House
5/6 S - Mr Troy Stafford
5/6 W - Mrs Marlene Williams
Our Specialist teachers are:
Art - Mrs Fenna Hogg
Performing Arts - Fenna Hogg
P.E. - Ms Kelly Laidlaw
Support and Extension - Ms Kelly Laidlaw
Cultural Education - Brooke Wandin - will be extended to all classes next year
.
Time table
We have made a couple of slight changes to our timetable for next year to help alleviate some of the issues that occur in the yard towards to the end of the play period.
At school council it was ratified that we change the outside play periods to two half hour blocks. Students will have ten minutes of supervised eating time in the classroom to eat their snacks and lunch before they go outside. This means that the final session of the day will run for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Students who have specialist time then, will return to their classroom to clean up, pack up and reflect on their day with their teachers.
Due to the bus leaving in the final session of the day we will also ensure that no class has specialists during this time for more than one term in the year so that classes do not continually miss the same subject.
Doors open: 8:50am
Session 1: 9-10am
Session 2: 10-11am
Eating Time Fruit: 11:00 – 11:10
Playtime in yard: 11:10 - 11:40 (30 mins)
Session 3: 11:40 – 12:40
Session 4: 12:40 – 1:40
Lunch Eating Time: 1:40 – 1:50
Playtime in yard: 1:50 – 2:20 (30 mins)
Session 5: 2:20 – 3:20

I would like to wish our exiting students all the best for their future endeavours. I wish you all every success in life. To the families that are leaving the Healesville Primary School community, I wish you all the best and I thank you for your support throughout your time spent with us. To our teachers, Tom Gamble, Kristina Bennet and Katie Fuller, I would like to thank you for all that you have contributed to the school and it has been a pleasure to work with you – you will all be missed.
I hope everyone has a safe, happy and relaxing holiday. Take care and I look forward to catching up with you in 2020.

CAMP AUSTRALIA - BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Just to let you know that I won't be returning to Healesville Before and After School Care next year. I have had a great time off and on since starting in 2013. Thanks for letting me be part of your children's "Free" time. l have thoroughly enjoyed it playing Uno, chess, chase etc.
I am now going to spend time with the four grandchildren to keep me young.
Thanks & wishing you a Merry Xmas and all the best. Bob (spelt backwards Bob).
