LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

This school year, our School Librarian position was changed from a full-time position to a .7 position (3 1/2 days). Therefore, Mrs. Towns has very limited time to shelve books. She would love it if some people could volunteer to help her shelve them. Whether it be a one time volunteer, a weekly, or daily, we need your help. Can you give 30 minutes? one hour? a full day?

Please contact Mrs. Towns at mctowns@hudson.k12.ma.us or, just call the office and leave your name and number.

MATH NIGHT WITH 100 HERO

We are very exctied to be once again holding an in-person Math Night on Thursday, October 13th, 5-8pm. Come join us for a fun evening of math with hands-on learning through games and activities! We will have our special guest “The Hundred Hero” join us from 6pm - 7pm.

If you or a student in 6th grade or higher would like to volunteer at the event, please email Terri Buscemi at tabuscemi@hudson.k12.ma.us

We will be sending out a form this week that will include the opportunity for you to order pizza to eat before the games.

THE TURTLES ARE BACK IN GRADE 3!

The Blanding's turtles were introduced this week to the grade 3 students. A scientist from Mass Audobon came and gave an overview of endangered species and, specifically, the Blanding's turtle. This trutle can be recognized by their yellow throat, smooth spotted upper shell and hinged lower shell. It is found in wetlands in, primarily, norhtern Massachusetts and is considered a medium-sized turtle. The classrooms named the turtles Big Mac and Patriots. They will watch and take care of the turtles, graph them as they grow, and, in the Spring, release them.

MRS. REGH'S FRIDAY SCIENTIST

Each week a student in Mrs. Regh's class chooses an experiment. The student follows a format for a lab report and review it with the class. The student then performs the experiment, reviews the outcome with the class, and then answers questions. This week, a student mixes baking soda and vinegar in order to simulate a lava flow down a volcano (that he made).

MRS. CALVANESE'S FRIDAY SCIENTIST

Mrs. Calvanese began Friday Scientist this week. Her class is following the same format as Mrs. Regh's class. Her student demonstrated what happens when you change the tension of water. Pepper was sprinkled on the water. When the boy put his finger in the middle, nothing happened. But, when he put soap on his finger and reinserted it, allthe pepper moved to the edges of the plate.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP

When you are dropping off or picking up your child, please pull up as far as you can and as close to each other as you safely can. We want to alleviate any traffic on Cox Street. Please do not block the entrance/exit on Cox Street and the bus entrance/exit. Children should exit and enter cars on the right side of your vehicle. Do not exit your car to help your child. Staff will assist them.

LABEL CLOTHING AND LUNCHBOXES

We have three tables of sweatshirts, jackets, lunchboxes and backpacks. Please label your child's belongings. That way we can be sure that the items get back to their owners.

Also, if your child is missing clothing or a backpack or lunchbox, feel free to stop by and check out our tables.

HOODS/HATS/CELL PHONES, ETC.

Hats and hoodies are not allowed to be worn during the school day. The exception is that hats can be worn on some spirit days. There are children who are hiding inside of their hoodies in the classrooms.

Cell phones are not allowed to be seen or heard in school. If a child has one, it must be turned off and not seen or heard (kept in backpack). If it is seen or heard, it will be sent to the office and have to be picked-up by a parent. All phone calls from students will go through the office. Cell phones can only be used at CHAPS and the Boys and Girls Club.

No electronics are allowed to be used on the bus.
