Mrs. Clyde - Issue No. 23
Class News
Just a quick reminder that we have a lot of fun things coming up very quickly. We still need parents to join us for both field trips - June 16th and June 20th. Please check out the Dates to Remember below.
This Friday we are going to celebrate meeting our Rocky Rockstar class goal. The kids met the goal and I owe them a celebration. I am going to combine it with a little Happily Ever After Fairy Tale celebration as well.
The kids have been working for the past few weeks on reading fairy tales and writing about them. Their goal was to read and write about 6 fairy tales. We have been learning about the components of fairy tales. We have compared and contrasted fairy tales. We have been learning about character traits and how sometimes characters change in a story. Now kids are taking all of that and putting it together by writing their own fairy tale. By Friday I am hoping that kids will have completed all 6 of their books as well as finished writing their fairy tale. This Thursday kids will be sharing their fairy tale readers theater with other primary classrooms. Yes, we have been very busy in Room 8 growing as readers and writers!
I am looking for a few parents that could send in a few items for Friday:
For a 3 Little Pigs STEM project: (we'll be building a house for the little pigs!)
- small marshmallows
- toothpicks
For a little fun:
- a fun treat (cookies or something sweet!)
- juice boxes
Please let me know by Thursday morning if you can help with any of the items we need for Friday. Whatever we still need by Thursday afternoon I will go pick up after school.

Walking Field Trip to Twin Ponds - June 16th
On Thursday, June 16th the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms are walking to Twin Ponds Park (155th Ave. NE). We will be working with Nature Vision for a science exploration of pond habitats. Nature Vision will be providing for free of charge 2 naturalists to work with students in groups. While kids are learning about the pond habitat, the rest of the kids will be playing field games and taking a nature walk.
We are looking for a few parents that could help lead one of the game stations or nature walk. If you would like to help run a station, please let me know. We also need parents to come and help supervise kids as we walk as well as throughout the time at the park. Finally, we would like to have a snack for the park and popsicles when we return to school. Please let me know how you would like to help out.
A permission slip will be coming home this week. Please fill this out and return as soon as possible. There is no cost for the field trip! We will leave Ridgecrest at 8:45AM and return around 1:30PM.
