News from CPE
Hello CPE Families!
This has been a challenging week for our country. Although many of our youngest learners may not understand all the events, we spent time this week talking about being kind, what we do with frustration and teaching the skills to grow citizens that are passionate, but respectful.
We are back into the full swing of learning. This is a distribution week, meaning many students have supplies and books that need to be picked up. Please come by the cafeteria between 11:00 and 1:00 to pick up your students materials.
Lastly, we want to thank Foundry 10 for generously donating books, PE and music supplies. See the below messages for details.
As always, thank you for your partnership. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 425-431-7621.
SPECIAL MESSAGE from Dean Wiley (CPE PE Teacher):
Each day in PE we talk about the importance of getting a healthy heart and having fun through physical activity. With this in mind, I wanted to get something for the students to use at home to help encourage them to be active. The school was able to find funding to purchase a foam ball for each CPE student to have for use during PE Zoom classes, as well as general activities at home. Your student will receive one foam ball in their bags for pickup this week. Please find a spot to keep the ball so that it is easily accessible for PE each week. I would also like to encourage your student(s) to use the ball for other fun family activities. Enjoy! Let's have a great year!
SPECIAL MESSAGE from Mike Defuria (CPE Music Teacher):
I am so grateful and excited to announce we have percussion instruments for all of our students to have at home to play and continue their musical learning! Your student will receive one pair of rhythm sticks and one pair of maracas in their bags for pickup this week. Playing instruments is not only a vital part of teaching students motor skills, beat, and rhythm; it is also a great way to empower students to take on a role in seeing themselves as musicians. I know that this may be a parents' nightmare: sending your students potential noisemakers. I would encourage that these instruments be treated like their other school supplies and kept in the same place as their notebooks, pencils, books etc. so that we can make sure the message is clear: these are tools for learning and not toys. These instruments are for your students to keep. I do not know exactly what in-person learning will look like for shared spaces like music class, but for now it is important that our students have access to all three types of percussion instruments (scraping, striking, and shaking) and that these instruments are not shared between students.
Sincerely,
Ms. Crum
