The Venture
B.M.M.M.O. / NABA Inc. Spring 2015
It has been a great start...
The beginning of the Spring 2015 semester has turned out really well for our organization. We have successfully managed to implement our intern program and we have already catered our general body members to a wide variety of events. Coming in to the semester our goals were to increase our presence on the Binghamton University campus and to better address our general body's needs by providing office hours services. So far we have held review sessions for exams in courses such as Math 108 - Pre-Calculus and Math 147 - Elementary Statistics. Along with this we have started to advertise other services which we considered would be beneficial and in our general body members' interest. We are slowly progressing and it is all thanks to the exceptional work done by the entire executive board.
NABA Upstate Visit
One of our last events during the Fall 2013 semester was the National Association of Black Accountants Inc. Upstate Visit which was held on the Binghamton University campus. NABA professionals attended and hosted a half day long information session which was divided into several different aspects for professionalism in a business environment. Along with Binghamton NABA members, the SUNY Plattsburgh NABA chapter also attended.
Winter Break Community Service
Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen
Maintaining our mission to get involved in our communities, during this past winter break we made our way to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen to help out by serving food to the most needed. Not only was it a satisfying experience but it was pleasing to know that we helped feed more than two-hundred individuals in one morning.
Ensuring our members get insights into the field...
Morgan Stanley Mentoring Event
This winter we held our ninth annual mentoring event with American multinational financial services corporation, Morgan Stanley. Twenty general body members took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Morgan Stanley Building in Manhattan, New York in order to meet Binghamton University Alumni and to get insight into the recruiting process at Morgan Stanley. Two of our lovely alumni also decided to attend and assist us with the execution of this event- thank you!
For the Love of Networking
After much preparation we were able to carryout "For The Love of Networking," an event where professionals from each of the six firms on the flyer attended and networked with current Binghamton University students. We strayed away from the typical networking event by making it more interactive by allowing the students and professionals to play games such as water pong and ring toss. Our event served its purpose in that we were able to create an environment where the general body members who attended were able to make connections with the professionals from each respective firm and learned about potential diversity opportunities within these firms.

This Semester's Events
Where Did The Time Go?
We designed our first general body meeting of the semester as a time management workshop. We provided our general body members with tips and information about how to stay on top of their game all semester and maintaining an organized academic, professional, and social life style.
Access Granted
Everyone dreams to receive a full-time job or internship offer from their ideal company. However once they receive this offer, majority of the time they are not sure what the follow up steps consist of. During this general body meeting we informed students about the post-offer process and the dos and don'ts of making the most sensible decisions.
Who's Got Your Back?
Coaches, mentors and sponsors are important figures in your life especially when pursuing a business-related career. In this general body meeting we discussed the importance of understanding the difference between the three, how to obtain these figures and understanding the impact that they have on your personal lives and careers.
Death of the Magical Minority
In conjunction with the Caribbean Student Association, we dedicated a general body meeting to address a, what can be considered, controversial word on the Binghamton University campus and in general. Topics we discussed included: the evolution of the definition of the term “minority," and what are the misconceptions associated with the word. Moreover providing examples, we will try to arrive at the term's true meaning.
Battle Through The Ages
Our second annual game show entitled "Battle Through the Ages" will take place March 12, 2015. Different student organizations from the Binghamton University community will go head to head in order to earn the title of our second annual winner. A cash prize will be provided to the winning organization along with other prizes for competition within our audience members.
Tokenism
In an effort to collaborate with other student organizations, we joined Binghamton University's Black Student Union, and several other organizations, in their Black History Month general body meeting entitled "Tokenism". During this general body meeting we discussed the practice of making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to do a particular thing, especially by recruiting a small number of people from underrepresented minority groups.

B.M.M.M.O. 7th Annual Luncheon
The theme of this year's luncheon and our week is Self-Innovation. With this theme, we would like to highlight different ways we should and are forced to change certain things about ourselves in order to become more appealing to society, employers and via social networks. We would also like this theme to focus on how employers are shifting their focus to finding students with innovative personalities and mindsets and how students can prepare themselves for this change.
