All Things Solar Eclipse
As our students were getting back into the routine of a new school year, Solar Eclipse fever broke out! In the weeks leading up to August 21, the Learning Commons shifted gears from "All Things Library" to "All Things Solar Eclipse". This was the perfect opportunity to help students understand the science behind a Solar Eclipse. We watched videos, talked about how to view the eclipse safely, and then did an experiment to give the kids a visual representation of how the distance between the sun, moon, and Earth affects what we see from Earth. A Solar Eclipse Kahoot was the perfect way to end our learning.
What a memorable experience!
Destiny Discover Chrome Extension
Whether a student is researching, creating a project, looking for a new book to read or just browsing, we try to connect and teach them about all the wonderful resources our library contains.
Our students also use Google to search and we teach them this skill as well. However, we don't want to forget the library resources either.
Guess what? Follett has created the perfect solution for this!
The Destiny Discover Chrome Extension!
Now it's easier than ever to locate resources in our library. Just use Google to search for resources from our Destiny Catalog.
In the image above this post, I was searching Sharks and all of our library resources about Sharks showed up in the ribbon at the top. LIFE CHANGING!!!
You can also click on the Destiny Discover Extension and it will bring down a Search bar which lets you Search Your School Resources here too. JUST 1 CLICK!!!
This is an important addition that Follett has created and will help our students and teachers as they search for the resources they need.
Rolling Returns is Back!
These students will come around to each classroom to pick up library books that are ready to be returned. Please bear with us as these are fourth graders just learning the ropes.
Until next month...
About Us
- Get students excited about the library space and learning.
- Give students opportunities to work on engaging tasks.
- Provide spaces to work collaboratively, think critically and creatively.
Also, to transition to a place where students DO stuff, not simply a place where students GET stuff.
