-
Set aside enough time for sleep. Most people need at least seven to eight hours each night in order to feel good and be productive.

Make sure your bedroom is dark, cool, and quiet. Cover electrical displays, use heavy curtains or shades to block light from windows, or try a sleep mask to shield your eyes.

Turn off your TV, smartphone, iPad, and computer a few hours before your bedtime. The type of light these screens emit can stimulate your brain, suppress the production of melatonin, and interfere with your body’s internal clock.

TEACHER TALK 2
Make sure you are familiar with the following terms and how they might relate to the diagnosis: A. REM Sleep, B. Caffeine, and C. Circadian rhythm
I have talked about REM Sleep and Circadian rhythm in my teacher talks aready. Below is a chart that covers how much caffeine is in certain drinks. Refer back to Lesson 3 for more info about caffeine and its effects as a stimulant.
Honors Summative Procedure:
Step 1:
Review the information presented and gather more info from your client by answering this question, What other questions would you want to ask the client? An example, Do you wake often during the night?
Step 2:
Provide a diagnosis by answering this question, With the information you have what would be your first diagnosis? Terms you could use here, sleep apnea, insomnia, sleep cycle, and Shift Work Disorder.
Step 3:
Provide a recommended treatment. In your recommended treatment must address each of the following: REM Sleep, Caffeine, and Circadian rhythm. Questions to consider as you formulate a recommended treatment plan: Why is REM sleep necessary and beneficial? How does caffeine both positively and negatively impact our daily function? Why is the proper circadian rhythm function so important for our sleep health and overall well being?
