Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart

From our Principal

Kia ora e te whanau o Puketapu,

Congratulations from Week 7

Firstly, congratulations to everyone for their mahi in Week 7. I loved hearing the narratives shared by our parents and kids that experienced Year 8 Camp, Year 7 EOTC Week and the Year 2/3 Athletics. They created really cool memories that will stay with them for a long time.

Congratulations to Laurie Edwin and Cara Knuckey who have completed their first two years of their teaching careers at our kura to now be fully registered teachers. We are proud of how you are growing as educators and look forward to seeing you continue to progress over your career here at Puketapu.

Kia pai to wiki,

It's not too late for Raffles

Please keep items coming in for the raffles - they will be great!

Bring any grocery or Christmas themed items to the school office by Thursday.

We made the National Finals!

Huge congratulations to our Tahi Rua Toru Tech Challenge team, Puketapu Wahine Toa.

The team is made up of Tayte Hancock, Areiana Zandbergen, Oracle Rangi and Kierah Hosking, who won the regional final for the Manawatu/Taranaki region.

The challenge was to identify a problem within the school and design a technological solution to help fix it.

The girls decided that a problem was the amount of cars and traffic in the drop off bay, both at the beginning and end of the school day.

Their solution was to use a webcam from the Design Technology block, facing the drop off bay. Parents could then scan a QR code, or go to a link provided on the school website, and see the live feed from the webcam.

The judges said our team:

"Clearly established problem area with an elegant, creative solution. Key technical learnings achieved in areas of livestreaming, website development and use of QR code for access. Consideration of ethical dimensions, namely privacy concerns. Good use of school technology design room to base the project which would undoubtedly expose other students to the work. A high level of teamwork, collaboration, cooperation communication evident. Addition of video bloopers a pleasant inclusion. Path-leading by team and teacher, significant first time entry."

From here the girls will be attending a virtual meeting with the judging panel this week and will attend a virtual hui the following week, hosted by Suzy Cato, to discover if they have won the national competition.

We would like to pass on our huge congratulations to the team and to Design and Technology Teacher, Mrs Claire Wigley. They have worked hard on this and we are really proud of you all. Especially as this is the first time our school has entered!

Year 7 EOTC

On day 3 of our year 7 EOTC week last week we had the privilege of having students from New Plymouth Boys High and teacher Mr Davies, head of Culture and Arts, and dance teacher Jess Davies come to run some activites with us.

Students could pick from Dance, Song writing, Guitar and Drama/Theater Sports.

We had so much fun learning new skills and getting out of our comfort zone.

At the end of the day we performed for some Kowahi students.

It was really awesome to see some students playing theater sports games at lunchtime in the playground.

Meet your 2021 Teacher!

Tomorrow we are holding our Meet Your 2021 Teacher event.

From 2pm, all students will go to their 2021 classroom, to meet their 2021 teacher and find out who else will be in their class.

The teaching team has worked hard to develop class lists considering the needs of each child, friendship groups, relationships and equity of classes.

Each child will also bring home a written confirmation of their teacher and classroom and a stationery list. From Friday you will be able to book a time for their Head Start Hui on our first day of school in 2021 (Tuesday 2 February) and purchase stationery online from Office Max MySchool.
