Kinder Review

Liiteracy Corner

This week, we learned two new word wall words, the and can. Please review these words nightly with your child. They are going to see these words in almost all stories that they read. During phonics we focused on beginning sounds. When talking to your child, ask them what sound words begin with. This will help them focus on the sounds of words, and ultimately help them to begin sounding out words.

During our reading lessons, we focused on know the difference between letters and words. We also worked on blending sounds together to read words. Our theme for the week was fire prevention. The students worked on expository text that give you factual information. Continue reading with your child at home, having them track the print by putting their finger on each word as they read them.

Next week we will complete our fire safety unit by visiting one of our local fire departments. We will also begin our unit on pumpkins, reviewing farms and apples, showing all of our lessons learned are connected to each other. We will also continue learning new word wall words. We will also work on beginning sounds, as well.

Math Lab

This week the students were introduced to sorting. The students did a great job seeing how thing are sorted based on specific attributes. We also reviewed numbers, counting and shapes. Please review all of these skills with your child. They need to count to 25 by the end of the quarter, which is in two weeks.

Next week we will continue to work on counting, numbers, shapes and sorting. We will also begin reviewing for the end of quarter assessment.

Parental FYI...

Please remember to send in your child's snack money. We have a snack in class daily. We ask that you not send in extra snacks. We ask that you pay for it monthly ($8), quarterly ($18) or yearly ($72) to help use our time more for instruction.

Please leave your child's "Weekly Report" in their communicators. We use the weekly report to help us keep track on behavioral incentives. We then file those away for documentation throughout the year. They will be returned to you at the end of the year.

Many students have been forgetting to put their names on their papers. Please tell your child how important this is. It helps us makes sure that we know who completes the activities. It also helps them with writing their names, which are found on their classroom tool kits. We have informed the students that if they turn in a paper with no name, they will have to move a stick. Please help them remember so they don't have to move a stick.

You should have found your child's class shirt in their communicator. These shirts will be worn on all field trips and special days at school. We will let you know when the class needs to wear their class shirts.
