Olympia Weekly
Week of December 4th
From the Principal
This is Mr. George, the principal of Olympia. We have had several complaints about issues in front of Olympia being unsafe in the mornings, parents doing inappropriate u turns after dropping off, and generally being in a hurry and driving too fast through a school zone. I wanted to make sure that you knew that we have reached out to Judson PD and Universal city PD about the situation and you probably have already seen an increased presence. I also want to remind everyone that the preferred drop-off is in the back where we have staff ready to receive students. I have had PreK parents indicate that they did not know they could not come to the back, but I want to reassure everyone that all students can come to the back and be dropped off. All we ask is that if you are removing seatbelts move to the middle to do that and we will come get the students from you. Even as late as 7:20 there is very little traffic in the back and plenty of staff to make this efficient and fast. Also, for your convenience we open the back gates at 6:45am, and staff members in the hallways to monitor students until the teachers arrive and start breakfast at 7:00am. If you still are choosing to drop off your kiddos in the front please walk your students down the sidewalks on either side to the front entrance, and use the crossing signal if you are parked across the street. Thank you for helping us keep kiddos safe.

- ATTENTION D.O.G.S.! We're looking for some Dads Of Great Students! Is that you? The Watch DOGS program is a volunteer program where fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures volunteer at school for one day (or more). This program is to help provide positive make role models for our students. If you're interested in learning more about this opportunity to make a positive impact, please reach out to Mrs. Hadas at ahadas@judsonisd.org.

Leaders of Tomorrow: Learning Is My Superpower
Your students may be coming home and talking about rewards they can earn. Our objective is to allow every student the opportunity to earn the rewards if they want to put in a bit more effort. Students already do Zearn lessons in school and get feedback from month progress monitoring on how to improve. Those who act on that advice and continue to work on their skills should be rewarded before the end of the school year. For a complete listing of the expectations click here https://www.canva.com/design/DAFuPc3sgqE/JTxOjUf6XaShIiNspRMbEA/view?utm_content=DAFuPc3sgqE&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelink
Students may be asking if they can log on from home and start working towards their reading and math goals. From home it is a bit different from logging in at school. You can follow the steps below:
Go to judsonisd.org
Click Students
Click ClassLink
Enter Login
This will open their portal
Then students can access Amplify and Zearn (If you have questions about these steps you can reach out to your teacher through dojo). Also, Kinder teachers could also be sending home some easy access QR codes as well.
For November we had 3 classes celebrated for the amazing progress the class as a whole has made towards earning shirts. Mrs. Muhle's class earned a pizza party for leading the school in progress with Mrs. Paniagua and Mrs. Slocum as runner ups and earning a popcorn party. Our next selection will be in January after MOY testing keep pushing!
In Case You Missed It...
Learning is my Superpower T-shirts are in!!
As we stated when our first student earned their shirt. We didn't expect so many students to complete this challenge so quickly. These students have been waiting patiently for the shirts to arrive. Congratulations to these amazing students who put forth extra effort to earn and prove "LEARNING IS MY SUPERPOWER". If you would like to review the requirements to earn the t-shirt you can check above or at the top of our facebook page. Olympia embraces students use of technology
Since Covid, Judson has ensured that all students have access to 1 to 1 technology in which every student has access to a chromebook. On top of that Judson has placed in several classrooms across the district the very versatile and large computer touch screens that not only serve to help teacher instruction, but students can use for demonstrations and student centers. Olympia is happy to announce that through careful grant spending of a special grant we received from TEA and a bit of fundraising over the past 2 years, every Kinder through 5th grade classroom including our life skills room has the technology available. Need After School Care? Try Our Adventure Club
for more information about our after school program please go to https://www.judsonisd.org/Page/31092
Interesting fact: The past two years nearly one fifth about 90 students utilized our aftercare program here at Olympia. This year this will be available for students 4 yrs and older. Our adventure club staff is part of the Olympia family. They do start their day a little later to be here for the aftercare program, but they also are in the classrooms helping to provide support and know our routines, procedures, and students.
