Return to School & Comprehensive Distance Learning Information

Here is glimpse of your student's day:

Each day will begin with a connection time with students at 8:30. This is a time to connect with students, share about the day, and support the emotional and social well-being of students. Learning will happen between the hours of 8:30-11:00 and 12:00-2:30. All staff and students will have lunch between 11-12. Lessons will be taught by the teacher, and small group instruction. About half the time will be applied learning which is a time where students are completing what is traditionally called “assignments” or independent reading/math/writing time. Every day the students will get 30 minutes of PE or 30 minutes of music on M/T and Th/F. Counselor and Student Success Coach lessons will be given to students on Wednesdays.

Teachers will record the mini lessons that they are teaching on Zoom. These lesson will be uploaded by 4:00 pm for students that are unable to participate during the live Zoom lessons.

Attendance Procedures- Subject to Change

Students are expected to be engaged in learning five days a week. However, the reality of the pandemic requires flexibility on how a student demonstrates meeting that expectation. For example a student may attend a live teacher-led session, watch a teacher-recorded video, interact with the teacher via email, post completed coursework. Further guidance is available in the ODE Guidance, but, in general, there needs to be two way interaction between the teacher and the student.

Teachers will mark students absent, during the scheduled school day, if there is no evidence of interaction with the teacher or the coursework. The interaction with the course does not need to include synchronous participation. (Live participation in Zoom meetings)

Teachers will verify (the next morning) if the students who were marked absent did interact with the coursework outside of the typical day. (Posted completed assignments etc.) They will update the absence if the student completed work after hours.

Sept. 8th -Meet & Greet Drive Up for Kindergartern 1st & 2nd Grade

Next Tuesday, Sept 8th there will be an opportunity for your child to introduce himself/herself in person to their teacher. While this interaction will be around 2 minutes, it will give students a chance to see their teacher in person before seeing them in a Zoom meeting. Parents/Guardians will drive the students up to the greeting area in the lane indicated by teacher name & alphabetical last name. To prevent back-up on 185th Ave. and prevent long waiting times; It is imperative that you come during the listed grade level/alphabetical time for your student. Teachers will be available at the indicated times only. (Grades 3-5 will have a meet & greet on Sept. 10th)

Important information regarding meal service for the fall

The USDA extended the meal service waivers that BSD has been operating under since the closure in March. Using these waivers Nutrition Services will continue serving free meals for all children ages 1-18 through December 31. All children can receive meals, there is no meal application or enrollment requirement under these waivers. Students may go to any school to receive a meal.

Our service operation plans for the start of the school year remain the same, but we are working with ODE on which schools we can serve meals from. The waivers are under the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and just over half of BSD schools are approved for service under SFSP.

Based on previous SFSP approvals the following schools will be serving meals:

Aloha HS

McKay

Aloha Huber Park K-8

McKinley

Barnes

Merlo Station HS

Beaver Acres

Mountain View MS

Beaverton HS

Mountainside HS

Cedar Park MS

Repeat Information: Technology/Library Books

All Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will be able to pick up an iPad for at home learning prior to the start of the year. We will announce pick-up times as we get closer to the start of the school year. If you borrowed a Chromebook in the spring, you will be able to return it when you pick up the iPad.

Chromebooks will be available for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who do not yet have a working device at home. As the priority for the start of the year is for all students to have a working device, if you who borrowed one in the spring, you can continue using it this fall.

If a previously-issued Chromebook is not working properly please contact the school.

Library Books can be returned when you are picking up devices as well.
