DATA's Optimist Student
Optimists Honor De Anza Eighth-Grader
Allison Stehle, who has a wide range of interests and was described by Principal Hector Guerrero with the words leadership, kindness and dedication, was named Student of the Month at the East Ventura Optimist Club’s Feb. 21, 2018, meeting.
Guerrero and Counselor Angelica Montelongo both praised Allison. Guerrero said that De Anza considers the student who receives the award as student of the year. The middle schools in the Ventura Unified School District choose the recipients each month.
Allison received a $50 gift card from Barnes & Noble, a certificate and a framed copy of the Optimist pledge.
Guerrero said Allison is “a very wonderful young lady” and “all her teachers adore her,” adding, “I’m blessed to be principal for Allison.”
“Kids like Allison make us (the school’s staff) better people,” he said.
Montelongo said Allison is “an exceptional young lady who deals with situations in a very mature manner, years beyond her age. She is an exceptional leader on our campus and will be greatly missed, she is going to be a wonderful addition to the student population at the high school she attends next year. “
Allison is the Associated Student Body president, loves to sing and act and hopes to become an actress or be an entrepreneur, she said. She has performed in several plays, including “The King and I” and played an evil stepmother in “Into the Woods.”
Allison thanked her parents and the De Anza staff for their help and support. She surprised all the club members when she said she tried to support all her teachers – even the substitutes – in her classes.
She hopes to attend Foothill Technology High School or Buena High School.
The East Ventura Optimist Club is part of Optimist International, which has “Friend of Youth” as its motto. The club joins with the Sunrise Optimist Club to present a three-day basketball tournament that uses almost all the high school and middle school gyms in Ventura and high school in Oxnard. This year’s tournament is scheduled for April-20-22.tournament
