Push and Pull factors for France

The people who moved out of France and into Texas were the ones mainly affected by the Anglo domination after the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. The others were French slaves, refugees from the 1790 slave uprisings in Santo Domingo, and émigrés from the French Revolution and those who were angry with Napoleonic dictation ship.

They moved into Texas because they recognized it's independence, and believed in it's frail freedom.

Robert Cavelier (La Salle)

He explored the Mississippi river. He also claimed the basin for France. While, the French explorers did not land in the Mississippi, but near the land that would be named Louisiana, in honor of King Louis XIV.

Pierre Marie

He took leave from the Navy, and wanted to explore the world. He completed his travels— which ranged from Philippines, India, Arabia, and the Mediterranean Sea. He was awarded the Croix De Louis. His adventures were translated in 1791 as Around The World in Years 1767-1771, which was generally accepted as the first account in English describing Texas.

Culture of France

Religion : 61% Roman Catholics, 21% Atheists, 4% Muslims, 3% Protestants, 1% Buddhists, and 1% Jews.

Education: Primary (Grade school), Secondary (College), and Higher education (University).

Food: The french typically eat a small breakfast which is balanced by the lunch and dinner being the two main meals. Formal four course meals consist of a starter course, a salad, a main course, and finally a cheese or dessert course. Cheese and wine and included in almost every meal.

Sports and hobbies : Other popular sports played in France are rugby, cycling tennis, handball, basketball and sailing.

Art : Gothic Art and architecture originated in France in the 12th century.In the 13th century, the stained glass painting technique and sophisticated illuminated manuscripts were developed. Then a technique called Flamboyant was developed.

The French did not impact Texas much. The fields they impacted are Architecture, Language, Art, Fashion, and Food. The French who came from France to Texas differed in both number and degree of economic need from their counterparts also of French stock, the Louisiana Cajuns.
