Lincoln Band... WOW!
Principal's message
Hello Lum families! We have had a number of exciting assemblies so far this year. One I was particularly excited about was the Oakland Ballet’s “Discover Dance – Oakland Ballet in the Schools.” They came last week, Tuesday the 13th, and showed us what it is like to live the life of ballet dancers, using scenes from their production of The Nutcracker to highlight the different kinds of dancing done by male and female dancers. We also had the Lincoln Middle School band come two weeks ago and perform Holiday themed songs to get us in the mood. They were amazing too!
Thanks to our AMAZING PTA who organized another great Family Fun night two Fridays ago. I was sad I wasn’t able to attend, but from the pictures put up on Twitter, I felt like I got to participate, at least peripherally. Thanks to everyone for continuing to strengthen our community by providing and engaging in activities such as these.
We are having a Family University Math night to engage and educate our parents and guardians with regards to our new Eureka Math curriculum on January 25th from 6:00 – 7:30 in the Lum MPR. I am hopeful you will come and learn with us. We will have a keynote about the program, and breakouts at hopefully each grade level. Look for more info to come.
Lastly, I want to extend an invitation to you all to come and hear the plans for the construction project planned for Lum to start summer 2017. The architects will be presenting the plans that have been worked on by our Site Design Team (composed of District, Lum staff, and Lum parents) at our January PTA meeting, starting at 6:30 on January 18th. We have posted the minutes from our design meetings on our website here, so please read up if you are interested.

Office News
On behalf of your Administrative Staff, Mr. Woodward, Chris, Anne and I would like to express our sincerest holiday blessings to all of you. May you enjoy quality family time together during the winter break and may our Lum Bears return bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to begin 2017 with a bang!
Pennies for Pajamas: This worthwhile fundraiser will run 12/1/16 – 12/15/16. Please note that, as well as pennies, we will take monetary donations of any denomination to help fund the cause. With the funds collected, the local Midway Shelter will be one of the homeless shelters we’ll be helping. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
And last, but certainly not least … Farewell to our dear, dear Office Assistant, Chris Janvier: It is with mixed emotions that we inform our Lum community that our loving Office Assistant of 8 ½ years, Chris Janvier, will be retiring effective December 30. Yes, the New Year is fast approaching and your children will be returning to an office without that friendly, loving and nurturing Miss Chris. Please join us in wishing her many more years of retirement bliss with her 6-year retired Alameda High School principal and husband, Mike Janvier. Miss Chris has been a Lum “icon”, and there aren’t any words to express the heart-warming love and sincerest gratitude. We will truly miss you, Chris. Enjoy your very well-deserved retirement and remember … you will always be one of our Golden Lum Bears!

2016-2017 Volunteer Requirements
We appreciate all our volunteers and what they do for Lum School. We thank you for your cooperation with AUSD Volunteer policies, as outlined below:
1. Volunteers must complete a volunteer agreement form each year and provide a copy of their driver’s license/passport to the office. (Volunteer agreement forms in office.)
2. Principal Woodward will perform a search of the Department of Justice website (Megan’s Law).
3. If you will be regularly volunteering in a classroom, or elsewhere at the school, the school will need a clear TB test result.
4. If you will be driving on any field trips, working unsupervised with students, or spending the night on overnight field trips, you must be fingerprinted. In addition, when driving, the required driver’s insurance coverage must be provided. (Insurance coverage forms in office.)
5. Fingerprinting instructions are outlined below, and fingerprints must be cleared at least a week prior to the field trip. This process may take up to a month, so start well in advance of the field trip:
a. Pick up a Livescan form and suggested Livescan locations list from the Lum office.
b. Arrange for fingerprinting with the Alameda Police Dept. or another facility on the locations list. Pay the required fees to the fingerprint facility.
c. Have fingerprints taken and return the Live Scan form to AUSD Human Resources.
d. Human Resources will inform the office when the prints have cleared.
e. Once fingerprints are taken, they are good for life!
We truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication shown from our Lum volunteers.
