Dear John Wetten Families,
October has been a busy month as JWE staff work to complete initial Reading assessments in DIBELS for grades 2-5, and IRLA for grade 1. These assessments will help guide instruction in whole group and small group work during Distance Learning. Progress Reports will also be mailed out the week of Nov. 2nd and will include your students DIBELS and IRLA results.
It is also a busy few weeks for some virtual activities. Our Book Fair is open until Nov. 5th. We have our PBIS assembly that will held on Friday, October 30th. We are also holding a Move-a-Thon, which will take the place of our annual Jog-aThon, from Nov. 2nd - 20th, more information below. We are definitely looking forward to holding some of these typical activities and assemblies that we would do in a normal year. Thank you for all you do to support your child during Distance Learning. We truly appreciate that support during this challenging time.
In Partnership,
Michael Clutter

Move-A-Thon 2020
Monday begins a very important fun and healthy way to raise money for students of
John Wetten Elementary
This fundraiser is in lieu of our annual Jog-A-Thon. Funds raised from this event go towards the purchase of much needed technology equipment, student PBIS rewards, assemblies, field trips and much, much more. Due to the amazing support we've received from our previous Jog-A-Thons we have not needed to have additional fundraisers throughout the year. Will you please help us reach our goals so we don't have to have additional fundraisers this year.
We want to promote a healthy lifestyle to our students and the community. Students are asked to move for at least 15 minutes a day, between Nov 2nd and Nov 20th, to stay healthy and raise money for our school! Please help us reach our fundraising goal by supporting our Move-A-Thon 2020. We have teamed up with Get Movin’© to make this event fun and profitable with online mobile friendly technology!
Our TOTAL SCHOOL GOAL is $25,000.00
Watch for the registration link and more details to come to you on Monday 11/2

New Box Tops Program
During this challenging time, our teachers and students need more help than ever.
No matter what school looks like, Box Tops for Education is a fast and easy way for
you to help out from home.
The Box Tops program has been around for over 20 years, and it really works. In fact,
Box Tops for Education has helped give almost a billion dollars to schools since 1996.
In 2019, the program evolved to become digital so that you can earn for your school
with just the touch of a button.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile
app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and automatically
adds Box Tops to our school's earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or
doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Twice a
year, our school gets a check!
Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate,
the bigger the impact we can make. So let's give our teachers the support
they need and help give more kids the opportunity to dream. Little by little, we can help make a big difference.

Notes from the Nurse
It’s Flu Season, oh, my!
Flu season is fast approaching with most cases beginning in October and peaking between December and February each winter. This year getting a flu vaccine is especially important.
One way to not get the flu is to get immunized against it by getting a “flu shot”. The “flu shot” causes antibodies to develop in the body, giving it the ability to fight the flu. Most clinics and pharmacies offer the flu vaccine. If you’re having difficulty finding a place to get the flu vaccine please contact the Gladstone School District Nurse, Cindy Bakke RN,BSN at bakkec@gladstone.k12.or.us and she will help you find one.
Remember to ask your health care provider about any other vaccines your student may be needing.
Go be a flu fighter!
