Weekly Announcements - Week of September 19, 2016

First Week: It was great being back with the kids! They did an awesome job this week and seem to be back in the swing of things. We will start working into our typical daily schedule on Monday.

AR Points: Students will need to have at least 3 AR points by Thursday, September 29th.

Leaves: Please see the yellow paper in your child's Friday folder. We will be doing a leaf project in October that students will need to collect, rinse, and press leaves to complete. I have also included a copy of the sheet below in case it does not make it home. All leaves should be at school by October 14th.

MCA Scores: Fourth grade MCA scores are in your child's Friday folder. Please let me know if you have any questions on this report.

Snack Time/Water: We will have snack times built into our work time throughout the day. Students are welcome to bring in a healthy snack from home to eat during this time. Please to not send candy or peanut products as a snack. Students are encouraged to bring in a water bottle each day.

Green Daily Work Folder/Assignment log: Students will bring home a green daily work folder each day. One side is labeled for papers to be left at home and the other is labeled for papers to bring right back to school. Please help you child get in the habit of cleaning this folder out each night and bringing the folder back to school each day. Assignment logs will be filled out each day. Please sign the log each day and go over any assignments that will be due.

Homework: Each week students will be given 2 math assignments and a spelling assignment on MONDAY. These assignments are due on THURSDAY. Your child may have additional assignments in science, social, reading or math, so please check the green folder and assignment logs each day.

Word of the Day

In fifth grade, we have a word of the day. We have discussed the expectations as a class and students have done a nice job following the procedure this first week. Students will be assigned a word Monday - Thursday. The word is due the following day after it is assigned. Some students have expressed interest in completing the words for the week over the weekend, so I have included the words for next week. Students can use a dictionary or the Internet to look up the meanings and pronunciation. Feel free to discuss the meanings with your child. Students should know how to pronounce the word correctly and define it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
