History and purpose
The purpose of the Department of Energy is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. It was founded in 1977 and has the manhatten project being one of its early reasons for being created, the Department worked on nuclear weapons research in the 1980's.
Facts and Important Historical events
The Department of Energy openly supports 3D printing and views it as a large step to a better future, they also show care for the carbon emission problem. The Department of Energy cleaned up left over nuclear waste from Hanford reactors shut down, and as quoted from there website, "mission of stabilizing 56 million gallons of chemical and radioactive waste stored in Hanford’s 177 tanks is one of the highest priorities for the Department".
Current events
Recently the Department of Energy was at the Paris climate talks discussing the issue of carbon emissions and trying to reach an agreement on a solution. Also they are working on a large energy efficiency plan that plans to cut carbon pollution by 885 million.
