Senior Awards Night!
Athletic Announcements
We had a huge week this week as many of our teams competed in their league/district championships and our softball and baseball teams continued their fantastic regular league seasons.
Every one of our spring sports teams has qualified for participation in the state playoffs - absolutely incredible.
Schedule:
Please check out the upcoming week’s schedule:
Tennis: Junior Sydney Liao qualified for the state 5A tournament by finishing 3rd in the NWOC tournament that was held at Parkrose on Monday and Tuesday. Her state tournament begins on Friday, May 20 at the Portland Tennis Center.
Track: The JV team wrapped up their season competing at the NWOC Novice meet last Friday. Many had their best performances of the season. Our girls and boys finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
The varsity team finished Day 1 of 2 of the NWOC Championships held at Wilsonville. They had a strong first day advancing a ton of athletes to the finals that will be wrapping up today. The top two finishers in the finals in each event punch their ticket to compete at the newly renovated and world-class Hayward Field (University of Oregon) next Friday and Saturday.
The following athletes already clinched their spots at state:
Colby Campbell - Shot Put
Colin Stoddard - Pole Vault
Colin Stoddard - Long Jump
Megan Earl - Javelin
Golf: Both of our golf teams stepped up in a big way at the Regional State Qualifying Tournament held at Heron Lakes on Monday and Tuesday.
Our girl's team qualified for state by winning the event and edging out La Salle for the title. The following members will tee it up in the 5A State Championships hosted by Emerald Valley Golf and Resort in Creswell on Monday and Tuesday:
Kylee Nutt
Dylan Deitz
Molly Hagen
Reagan Witt
Kelsey Holcomb
The boy's team shot solid rounds at Regionals but were playing against some extremely talented teams. Although the team fell just short of advancing the following two qualified as individuals and will be playing in the 5A State Championships at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis which also takes place on Monday and Tuesday:
Caleb Glenn
Tucker Olson
Softball: They continue their great season by beating Parkrose and Putnam this week before dropping a game to league-leading Wilsonville on Wednesday. They travel to Milwaukie this afternoon and are now 12-2 in league play and ranked #8 in 5A and battling to host a first-round game in the state tournament.
Baseball: After dropping a tough one to Hillsboro last Friday, they won their next two against Milwaukie this week and look for the series sweep tonight on the road. They currently sit 3rd in the league at 9-5 and have clinched a state playoff berth.
Equestrian: Those participating in the state meet are getting ready to head to Redmond May 12-15.
Largemouth Bass State Championships: Will Harris and Andrew Janke will be representing Scappoose in the Student Angler Federation (SAF) State High School largemouth bass fishing championships. They will be headed to Ten-Mile Lake (Lakeside, OR) on Saturday, May 14.

Safe and Sober News
GRAD PARTY PERMISSION SLIPS -Your Senior should be receiving their All-Night Graduation Party permission slip soon. We’ve included it here, just in case you didn’t get it. Please turn these in ASAP as it helps with headcounts and planning. Also, even if your student is 18 or older, a parent or legal guardian must still sign the permission slip. More information will be coming out closer to the event with specific details about what your student can bring, etc.
BABY PICTURES - We have received pictures from about 65 seniors. That is only about 35% of our seniors. We have extended the deadline so that we can get as many seniors represented as possible. As a reminder, this is for the slideshow at Baccalaureate. Please send them to SHSgrad2022photos@gmail.com. If possible, please send both photos in the same email and name the photos with your senior's name baby senior. For example, John Doe baby, John Doe senior.
ADOPT A SENIOR – Adopt a Senior went live on Facebook Monday, April 18th. If you haven’t yet gone to the page and checked it out, you can do so by clicking here. You can post info about your senior and a picture for adoption or adopt seniors. This is a great way to show our seniors some love. Please feel free to share the Facebook page with your friends and family.

Attendance Matters
Attendance really matters! We want your student to be here and on time. So, how many absences are needed for a student to be considered truant?
Exceeding five days absent, either excused and/or unexcused, in a three-month period may be a truancy violation.
Unexcused absences are a child safety issue. Someone should always know where the child is. Oregon state law says an equivalent of four unexcused days in a month may also be a truancy violation.
Days specifically excused by doctor’s notes are excluded from any count. The program is intended to be as flexible as each school wishes. The school staff may take into consideration the student’s school performance when determining necessary intervention.
What happens when a student is sent to truancy?
A truancy officer will visit with the parent or guardian at the student’s home. The officer will evaluate living conditions that could affect attendance and inform parents or guardians of the Oregon Compulsory School Attendance Law 39.010. The officer will give the parent or guardian a compliance notice to sign and return to the school. This initial step often improves student attendance without further contact.
Tardy Policy
Excessive tardies will be turned over to the administration for disciplinary action.
Tardy # 1: three unexcused tardies in any one class in one semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 2: any tardy from any other class in the same semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 3: the next tardy from any class in the same semester. Result is Saturday School.
Unexcused absences will result in In School Suspension.
