WBMS Friday Notes
December 9, 2022
Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
While we are wrapping up the semester, we are by no means slowing down! All of our 8th grade students took part in The Sandwich Project this week through their Social Studies classes. After learning about food insecurity in Georgia, they took action by making over 1,000 sandwiches and included uplifting notes and a piece of fruit. Watching them work together to feed others was more than heartwarming. Thank you to all our parents and faculty members who donated items and time to make this service learning a reality for our students. Additionally, some of our 7th graders visited our feeder elementary schools to read and share information about the need for clean water around the world. I am proud of our students who are not simply reading about issues but learning they can make a change in our world through action and educating others.
Also, this week our 7th and 8th grade band students wowed a full gymnasium, and our musical thespians worked hard auditioning for next semester’s musical. The talent at WBMS always amazes me. In classrooms, all of our students wrapped up assessments in Science today, and spent the week preparing for final assessments in their other courses. Lastly, thank you to all of our secret elf parents who wrapped holiday gifts for our teachers and staff. This is one of our favorite treats each year. We appreciate your time and efforts!
Enjoy your weekend, Jaguars!

We love traditions, and a tradition at WBMS is to share the holiday cheer with our students in need with our “Giving Tree.” This year, we will continue to meet the needs of our families by gathering gift cards. If you would like to support, you can choose a gift card to a grocery store, Target, Walmart, Visa, or Old Navy -- any denomination.
Please bring to Kasey Wilson (6th gr counselor) or the front office by Tuesday, December 13.

December Updates
As Winter Break nears, our students have been very busy with Service Learning. Thank you to all of the students, teachers, and families who are living our mission – through an inclusive community, we commit to cultivate each facet of each child in order to have a positive impact on tomorrow’s world. We wanted to take a moment and highlight this week’s SERVICE LEARNING THROUGH ACTION:
6th Grade
The 6th grade council members bravely entered all 6th grade Compass classes to introduce themselves and the work they’ll be doing over the year. We know how hard it can be to speak in front of peers, so congrats to this team on their first public speaking experience as leaders of the inaugural 6th grade Character Council. The next goal is to research a local organization that works with refugees. Keep an eye out for our newest partnership.
7th Grade
The 7th grade council members visited our local elementary schools Creekview and New Prospect. They read I Dream of Water to fourth and fifth grade students. This is a huge part of educating our community on the importance of clean water access. Highlights from our 7th grade leaders included the following: the students really felt emotions while listening to us read, the students shared experiences of family members walking for water, and the students expressed how lucky they felt compared to the characters in the book. The council members then distributed invitations to the 2nd Annual WBMS Walks for Water. We can’t wait to see our elementary school students at this year’s walk. Registration for the walk is now opened. Please consider walking for water. http://bit.ly/3ijpuua

8th Grade
The 8th grade council members accomplished a tremendous act of service: this past Wednesday, the entire 8th grade made over 1004 sandwiches (surpassing our goal!) based on all the generous donations we received. All 8th graders built either (PB&J, Ham, Turkey, Or Chicken) sandwiches in their social studies classes. It was a great time had by all giving back to the community and spreading cheer while participating. The excitement radiated down the halls as students were excited to help. We are hoping to keep this a tradition as part of our service learning for 8th grade.

Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!

Important Message from FCS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the upcoming holidays, it important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods (store bought/homemade), or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by school administration. Per our Student Code of Conduct, students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for violation 7A: Failure to Follow Rules and all candy or food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s) as this will be taken very seriously. This is due to recent national and state reports about students sharing edible items and synthetic medications with other students that contain very harmful substances.
Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
