Dear Shimek Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I am writing today. With the many changes taking place across the district this spring, we recently found out that I will be assigned to Horace Mann to serve their children and families next year. While I am excited about this new opportunity, it is also difficult for me to imagine my role in another setting without you and your children. I will truly miss working with and being a part of the wonderful Shimek Community. I am very fortunate to have spent the last seven years with such a dedicated and caring group. I appreciate how much you have supported what I do as Shimek's counselor and I am sad that the relationships we've built together will not continue in the same capacity; but I can rest better knowing that your children are in good hands. The Shimek staff are amazing and the individuals coming to serve this role at Shimek (Mallory Wattiez from Wickham & Jeff Easley from Coralville Central) are top-notch.
In closing, I want to thank you for everything. I will forever cherish the precious memories I've been afforded here at Shimek and wish you all the very best! And I'll never be too far away!
Most sincerely,
Valerie Davine Bills
Bookmoible Summer schedule
Hello!
As Summer approaches I wanted to reach out and share the Iowa City Public Library Bookmobile summer schedulewith you and your students. Our Summer Schedule runs from June 3- August 16. Our route takes us to weekly stops throughout Iowa City (plus a couple of stops in Rural Johnson County as well as one stop in Hills). On board the Bookmobile we carry books and movies for all ages. We also are happy to bring requests for Holds or Inter Library Loan materials for folks to pick up as well.
If students don’t have library cards, we are able to quickly and easily make Library cards. Students need only to know their name, address, and birthday to get started with a library card. If students have had a card in the past, but have since lost it, we are able to make a replacement card as well.
For students interested in participating in the Summer Reading Program, but struggling to find transportation to the Library Building, they can still participate on their own and visit the Bookmobile to receive prizes. The Summer Reading program runs from June 1 – August 10 and pre-registration has already begun in the Library, on the Bookmobile, as well as online.
I am very happy to share that there are no overdue fees charged on Children’s and YA materials on the Bookmobile and starting on June 1st 2019, this will be true for all Children’s and YA materials from the Library building as well. If students have had outstanding fines or fees on their library cards in the past, please encourage them to still visit the Library or Bookmobile. We will do everything in our power to get their card back in good standing so they have access to library books.
If possible, please share our Bookmobile schedule with students and parents. We hope to connect with many area families this summer and appreciate your help in building and growing these relationships.
If you have questions or thoughts to share, please feel free to reach out to myself. Thank you so much for your time and help.
Best,
Shawna Riggins
