Lexia PowerUp Announcement for Parents/Guardians
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This year, your child will be using Lexia "PowerUp Literacy", a computer-based program that tailors instruction to their specific needs. The activities in PowerUp support and build on our English Language Arts classroom curriculum, focusing on three areas essential to becoming a proficient reader: word study, grammar, and comprehension.
Here's how PowerUp works:
- Each student has a weekly usage target that can be seen on the student dashboard.
- Progress and performance are reported directly to teachers so they can provide extra help when needed.
Here's how you can set your child up for success:
- Students should complete the tasks on their own. That means no hints or tips from grown-ups, friends, or siblings! This is important because PowerUp provides extra support and instruction if students struggle with a task, and alerts teachers when further help is required.
- Try to provide a quiet space for learning. Headphones can be helpful but aren't required.
- You can encourage and celebrate your child's progress via the Your Progress tile found on the PowerUp student dashboard.
Beginning January 25th, students will strive to earn 10 units each week.
A summative grade will be given in ELA before Q3 interims based on the amount of units earned.
Please email your child’s ELA teacher if you have any questions.
You can also call Moore at 843-664-8171 or email brittany.bennett@fsd1.org.
We hope you share in our excitement about this program!
Dreambox Announcement for Parents/Guardians...
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Dreambox is a program that was purchased by Florence 1 Schools. Dreambox is a computer program that is rigorous and adapts to student learning based on their needs. Students are assessed based on data collected from their completed lessons. We would like to encourage students to use the program. Therefore, we have decided to give a summative assessment grade based on the number of completed lessons. Students will need to complete 5 lessons a week for a total of 45 lessons by the end of 3rd Quarter in order to receive a 100. Please see the grade breakdown below.
Parents/Guardians, please use the attached directions to access your students dreambox account. Dreambox Parent Access Directions.
