Learn Like a Pirate!

A District 68 Internal University Offering

Learn Like a Pirate! Fostering collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation.

Course Description

Collaboration. Empowerment. Student Leadership. These buzz words get a lot of press, but what do they really mean for today's students? Can students really handle the responsibility of leading the class? Can they actually learn what they need to if they are working together so often? Won't all this freedom cause chaos in the classroom? Not if you're teaching them to learn like PIRATES!

Students will take part in a face-to-face and digital book study based on the best-selling education book, Learn Like a Pirate. During this course students will learn strategies on how to create a student led classroom.

Course Outcomes

Learning targets:

  • Teachers will establish a set of guidelines and expectations that allow them to successfully have a student-led classroom.

  • Teachers will create a classroom environment that fosters peer collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation.

  • Teachers will build a “toolbox” of strategies to implement these ideas.
