Director's Message
Dear BIS Community,
Thank you all for attending the Parent/Teacher Conferences this week. It was great to see all of the parents on campus again. I hope you were able to have informational meetings with your children’s teachers. To make sure that our Parent/Teacher Conferences continue to be informative and of the highest quality, we are asking you to complete a survey on your conference experience. The survey can be found here: Microsoft Forms
If you did not review the Parent Support Group minutes from last week, I’d like to encourage you to take some time and read over them. The minutes can be found below. A very important part of the minutes included all of the activities and events they are planning for this year. It is an exciting list of events that bring our new normal to BIS. The Parent Support Group have planned movie nights, play dates, community service day, rummage sale and a bake sale. The next meeting is November 1st.
Our new security gate protocol is being expanded to include student issued security cards. After the fall break, security cards will be issued to the students. The students will be expected to use the cards to enter campus. Below are some key points on using the cards with students.
- Cards will be handed out during the middle of the week after fall break.
- The first security card is free. A replacement card will be 10 manat.
- Security cards will be issued directly to students aged 6 YOC and older.
- -----We suggest that parents attach the card to the children’s backpacks or find a secure pocket in the backpack.
- Security cards for students aged 5 years and younger will need to be picked up from our security office by the parents. Students at this age are not expected to keep the card on/in their bag. The parent or driver will manage the card on a daily basis.
- -----When parents or drivers drop off 2-5 YOC children, the card will be used by the parent/driver and then left with the security office for pick up time.
- -----If your 2-5 YOC child rides the bus, a duplicate “BUS” card will be stored with the bus chaperone. Our staff will help them check in with this card.
- The school will issue the security cards in a protective cover with a tiny band attached to the card. The design is to help students hold on to the card when checking into school.
- -----The school will not issue security cards to students with a lanyard (an attachment that allows a security card to hang from the neck). The card must never be worn around the neck by any student. This is a health and safety expectation. Should they play on the playground with a lanyard, it can be harmful.
- Parent security cards are available upon request. Parents can use our visitor passes if they do not visit campus often. To request a pass, please complete the Parent Security Card form that is posted in the newsletter.
As we expand the use of our security badges, please keep us informed of your child’s experience.
Lastly, the BIS Eagle Logo committee met this week to finalize the updated school logo. The community volunteers agreed on a final eagle image. The school designer is completing the finishing touches on the logo. The big logo reveal will occur after the fall break. Thank you volunteers for helping the school update the logo. GO EAGLES!
If you have any questions regarding the newsletter or other matters concerning your child’s education or safety, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
I wish everyone a great fall break.
Sincerely,
Dr. Garner
A note from the Director of Instruction
It was a great week with the students. Student Council planned a fun dress-up week for BIS, with crazy hair day, decade day, mismatched day, formal day, and finally, a Friday pajama day. Many students and staff members participated in the fun. It's a nice balance to all of the hard work everyone is putting in during class time.
I also enjoyed seeing so many parents on the campus during parent-teacher conferences. I hope Fall Break is a time of rest and rejuvenation. We will come back to school with the excitement of the Fall Festival activities on both Friday and Saturday, October 28th & 29th. Flyers with more information are in the "Upcoming Events" section.

From the classroom, Ms. Eyvaz’s 12YO and 13YO Science Classes
The middle school science students have been busy scientists. They are regularly given the opportunity to work with various peers to learn how to cooperate and collaborate with all the different personalities in their classes. Like scientists outside the classroom, they share ideas about scientific topics and questions. They also help each other to learn about the new topics taught in the classroom.
One of the new scientific skills they learned this year was how to set up and properly use microscopes to study specimens. Thanks to peer help and encouragement, all the middle school scientists successfully mastered this skill. We look forward to developing more scientific skills throughout the year.
