We had an amazing day celebrating our students' success during quarter 1. All students who haven't had any suspensions were able to participate. We had a DJ, a selfie station (YES, they were able to use their phones during this reward, and they loved it!), and of course we had snacks for them. They really enjoyed it. Thank you so much to all of the families who donated items and/or their time to make this event so successful. We really appreciate you all!

Yesterday, Mrs. Oberski and I took our Aspiring Educator students up to Mount Pleasant for a college tour of Central Michigan University. The students were able to create a prototype to solve a common issue when eating, they ate on campus in a dorm, and got a tour of the campus, including a college dorm room and the Student Activity Center. What a great day we had exposing our future educators to what college life is like! Check out some of the pictures below!

All quarter 1 grades will be viewable through Parent Connect starting on Monday. Please take a look with your child and have a conversation around goals for this quarter.

Students who have earned a 4.0 GPA during quarter 1, Perfect Attendance, or the On A Roll award will be given their certificates/rewards on Thursday, November 10th.

4.0 students will be treated to a special breakfast during 1st hour. Perfect attendance and On A Roll will get certificates and a tasty treat at their lunch.

The new Yarn Craft Club or YCC will have their first meeting on Wednesday, November 9th in Room 319 from 2:50-3:50. This club is for anyone that likes to knit, crochet or do any other yarn crafts. Please bring a project and materials with you. You can also bring a snack. The YCC will be meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet you are welcome to come also. Attention Stevenson Families:

We have decided to offer a second opportunity to contribute to our Step It Up! fundraiser. So many students may have missed to opportunity to participate at the beginning, we have decided to have a mini-re-launch!

The students will be watching a short video re-explaining how to complete the Golden Ticket, earn their prizes and extend invitations to friends, family, and supporters. The new deadline for donations is now Friday November 11th, 2022.

Stevenson Middle School will be hosting a vaccination clinic on Wednesday, November 9th from 9am-11am. We will be offering multiple vaccinations for adults and our students. Please fill out the form below so Wayne County Health Department can come to our clinic with all of the vaccines needed.

Family Matters Parent Event Western Wayne County Suicide Prevention Coalition has arranged three Family Matters presentations for parents. Keynote speaker Matt Emerzian will share his story. Our families are essential to the growth and well-being of our youth. When we create strong connections and sustain relationships within our families, our youth thrive– emotionally, socially, and academically.

Each presentation is free, and they will be identical. Please note: These mental health presentations are unsuitable for children (babies are fine), and registration is necessary. The event on 11/10 will be held at JGHS. Each presentation is free, and they will be identical. The presentations are spaced throughout our area in Western Wayne County to provide parents with options to best meet their schedules.

On Second Step Wednesday this week, we covered our second lesson in the Recognizing Bullying & Harassment unit. Here’s the breakdown for each grade:

Grade 6:

Lesson 9 is Recognizing Bullying. Students learned about and how being bullied affects people and how to tell the difference between bullying and joking around. This week, students are asked to pay attention when people at school joke around, and think about how to tell the difference between joking around and bullying.

Grade 7:

Lesson 9 is What Is Sexual Harassment? Students learned how to tell the difference between sexual harassment and flirting. Sexual harassment is when someone bothers someone else with words, actions, or pictures of a sexual nature. This type of harassment includes anything that makes a person feel unsafe, includes unwelcome attention, or any behavior a person didn’t say “yes” to. Flirting is welcome attention that makes someone feel good, flattered, or neutral. Participants in flirting feel comfortable and can easily stop the interaction. This week students will look for examples of flirting at school and think about how it differs from sexual harassment.

Grade 8:

Lesson 9 is Social Factors that Contribute to Bullying. Students learned about how different beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors of particular groups can lead to bullying and harassment. This included social factors that might encourage the bullying and harassment, such as:

-believing sterotypes about boys and girls

-believing that bullying is just a part of life

-believing that bullying is a way to become popular or powerful

This week, students will look for social factors that might be contributing to bullying and harassment in the school or community.

All of our students are able to report bullying and harassment via the Student Statement form on the Student Hub!
