A Message from the Director
TVA Families,
Around the middle of the semester (yes we are almost 25% done) we tend to get more questions about how separate or connected TVA is to other schools within Duneland School Corporation. So, we thought we would clarify some for you this week.
- Building Access - TVA students have no access rights to any Duneland School during the school day other than a student from another district or a community member would. This means TVA students should not be on school grounds other than the TVA site during the school day. Hybrid students are the exception.
- Hybrid Students - Students who are dual enrolled as hybrid students should review the TVA handbook for guidelines on when and how to access the other buildings/locations for their classes. TVA students are limited to arriving 10 minutes before and leaving 10 minutes after an onsite class.
- Dances - TVA students are permitted to attend dances as a guests of an in-person student. Schools have forms that guest students must fill out and must be completed by our office as well in order to attend.
- Extra Curricular Activities - Students who have legal settlement in Duneland School Corporation are allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities, clubs, sports., etc. at the school. The TVA Handbook outlines specifics on this.
- School Events - TVA students are allowed to attend extra curricular events (games, performances, etc.) as a community member would. As with any other student their are guidelines for conduct that we expect of students that are outlined in the TVA handbook.
- Special Events - Many schools host parties, trunk-or-treats, or other events for their students after school hours. These events are only for students and families enrolled in that school. TVA is open to hosting similar events for our students if a parent organization is interested in helping. CHS hosts a trunk-or-treat event for the entire community. This is different as it is open to all.
- Yearbooks - We hope enough students have gotten pictures taken this year so that we can attempt to pull together a yearbook substitute. TVA students however should have no expectation of being included in their original school yearbook unless they are hybrid students or participate in an extra-curricular club or sport.
- Report Cards - TVA issues 2 report cards a year at semester, not each nine weeks. When report cards come out hybrid students will get one report card from their home school and one from TVA. All other TVA students will get one report card.
- Testing - Most testing takes place at TVA. Due to the requirements for monitoring of testing PSAT, SAT, and ASVAB testing does take place at CHS. We partner with CHS to administer and give these tests together.
- Graduation - This year TVA will have a separate end of the year graduation ceremony. Duneland will host a CHS & TVA joint ceremony for mid-year grads, but end of the year will be separate.
We know much of this sounds like what you cannot do versus what you can do. TVA programming hosts a way of learning and an approach to grading that provides alternates for our students. As a school only in year 2 we are welcome to hosting and supporting our own events just for TVA students. We have two Success Coaches onsite everyday to meet with and support student learners as well as a full time Special Education teacher. We also have a counselor who can work directly with our students.
We are happy to be a part of the larger Duneland School Corporation network. As we build and grow our student base we continue to reflect on the ways that we are separate and connected with DSC. We thank you for joining us and being a part of our Virtual Trojan team. If you have questions about ANY of the items listed above please reach out to us.
Have a great weekend and a great week.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Zeck & the TVA Staff
Each week we will showcase TVA Students of the Week. Students are chosen based on their online performance with staying on pace and making good academic progress. We are excited to celebrate our student successes and we hope this helps you also connect in some ways as well.
Autumn Kirk - TVA Student of the Week
Autumn Kirk is a 4th grade student with TVA who has been with us since we opened in 2021. Autumn likes TVA because, "It's fun. I like my teachers and I like I get to do school from home." When she grows up Autumn would like to own her own business like her dad and become a veterinarian. In her free time she likes to dance, sing and draw. Autumn will be a part of the graduating class of 2031.
Ty Johnson- TVA Student of the Week
Ty Johnson joined TVA in the winter of 2022 and is in 9th grade. Ty states, "I chose TVA because I am able to work at my own pace through the guided notes and assignments. I have the flexibility to be a better student through TVA." After high school he would like to learn more about stunt car driving and become a famous stunt car driver. He enjoys horror movies and has had the honor of meeting "Pinhead " Paul Taylor, "Georgie from IT" Jackson Scott and from the horror movie "House from 1000 corpses " Robert Mukes. Ty is on track to graduate with the class of 2026.

These available opportunities are offered by not-for-profit partnerships and organizations within our school district boundaries and local communities. Click the link below to learn more.
