Reading
Our poetry unit along with introducing figurative language has been exciting and a lot of fun. Another year of our annual "Coffee House" has been a success and many thanks for the treats. Students have a choice to make about their reading work. Make sure you ask them what their plan is for the winter break!
Writing
Students completed our 2 week-long process of revising our informational writing piece. To revise, we used a lens of geography, considered sequential/chronological order, filled in questions that readers have to build comprehension, furthered research by looking at primary sources, and balanced theorizing with facts and took out our own opinions.
Students will not be given a new spelling packet (unit 7) until after break.
Math
Our next unit focuses on multiplying multi-digit numbers. In fifth grade students will be learning the standard algorithm, along with other methods, to complete these multiplication problems.
Social Studies
We have completed our first Geo Adventures unit and test and will begin writing a historical, persuasive proposal that fits in with the time period that we are studying when we return.
