Personalized Learning in SHS

This week's feature: Ms. Gina Jones (Science)

Ms. Gina Jones is our resident Physical Science and Chemistry teacher for 12 years. She is known for doing labs all the time, and if there's something that smells burnt in the building, most teachers/students will say "It's probably Jones doing a lab."

One of her most anticipated labs is the Popcorn lab, relating heat transfer into a real-life application. There are three methods of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. Each of the methods the students use in the lab to make popcorn are representative of the means of heat transer: stove top (hot plate), hot air popper, and microwave.

Watch the video below as students perform the lab and gather data to find the most efficient way to make popcorn!

Tiger Tech of the Month: Quizlet Live!

Are you tired of Kahoot? Are your students tired of Kahoot?

Here's the gist of Quizlet Live:

1. Same as always, create an account.

2. Create a quiz or select one that's already pre-made.

3. Obtain the code for the quiz.

4. Set up your students in groups. Minimum to play is 3 groups of 2 (6 students total).

5. Students will enter the quiz code on Quizlet Live.

6. Different choices will appear on their individual screens (all their screens will be different!). They have to COMMUNICATE and COOPERATE with each other to arrive at the answer.

7. Your main screen will show a running tally of each group's progress. If a group gets an answer wrong, they have to start from ZERO again! (Reinforcing the learning)
