Happy Friday, Everyone!

Thank you to the students, families, and staff who made my first week at MTRS such a great start to 2022 for me. I really look forward learning about the people and activities happening at this amazing school!

Capstone Update

The first week of December, seniors at MTRS did their introductory Capstone presentations to a panel of mixed students, staff, and community members. It was an exciting few days while students shared their progress with their panels, got feedback on their work, and gained the momentum they needed to take them through the end of their work. Check out the Capstone website for a peek at what this year’s panelists said about the experience.

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 case counts in our area and increased health and safety precautions here in the building, we’ve made the difficult decision to substantially scale back the second round of presentations. Family and community members will not be allowed to attend, and we’re limiting the mixing of student groups within the building. Our seniors have done incredible work this semester, and it’s disappointing for them to not have a full audience to share their work. We hope to find ways to showcase their accomplishments this spring, but until then, please ask the seniors you know about their Capstone and help us all honor their investment and learning from afar. The class of 2022 is something special!

Interested in being a panelist next year? Please fill out the community member sign up form on the Capstone website (no need to do it again if you’ve already submitted). You can email Capstone Coordinator Rachel Hoogstraten - rhoogstraten@mtrsd.org - with any questions about Capstone at MTRS!

Health Office news from Donna Weber

With the highly transmissible Omnicon variant circulating, I HIGHLY suggest signing up for the weekly Covid-19 surveillance testing if you haven’t done so already. The link to sign your child up, if they are under 18 years of age, to be included in testing every Tuesday is:

https://cic.jotform.com/212725828696974?schoolName=Mohawk%20Trail%20Regional%20School&schoolId=102057&districtName=Mohawk%20Trail

For students that are 18 years old or more and for staff, the link is:

https://cic.jotform.com/212806495286969?schoolName=Mohawk%20Trail%20Regional%20School&schoolId=102057&districtName=Mohawk%20Trail

“Pool” testing works by testing 6-10 swabs at a time. The people that provide the samples do not even have to be in the same room. Only the health office and District Nurse Leader, Donna Weber, are aware of who is in each vial (pool). If a “pool” ends up positive, all people in that pool are tested immediately with a rapid test in order to identify who is positive. If everyone turns out to be negative, everyone would be tested again the following day to confirm that it’s negative. We do not notify individuals when we have to test everyone from a pool, called reflex testing, because we typically need to do contact tracing from the identified positive. You would only be contacted if your child is positive or ends up being identified as a close contact. If you have any questions, please contact Donna Weber at dweber@mtrsd.org
