Crisis Drill Feedback
January's crisis drill was one concerning a nightmare on a field trip - and injured student. Staff provided excellent responses demonstrating through planning and consideration of things we didn't even think of. As always, in a crisis, there is NO perfect answer. You must always go with the information you have and your gut instinct as to how best to respond.
To provide some additional ideas for how we could handle this situation, Nurse Amanda provided the following thoughts:
- Did the student hit his head on the way down, have profuse bleeding, or become unconscious during/after the fall? If so, the first thing to do is call 911!
- If indicated, start CPR/stabilize the head and neck with help from another.
- Yell for someone to find an AED, depending on the type of venue you are in.
- Another adult should be contacting parents and moving people away from the scene.
- If this is non-emergent and only minor injuries/broken arm is present, stabilize arm if possible and stay with the student. Another adult should contact parents and handle crowd control.

Meet our new Para-Professional, Danielle McCulley
Abigail Vohs with Beth Loosbrock and then Nicole McQueen
I am a senior at the University of Kansas, and I am very excited to be student teaching at CCE this semester! I will be in fifth grade with Mrs. Loosbrock during third quarter and in the Discovery Room with Mrs. McQueen fourth quarter. I will be graduating in May with a degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education. I look forward to meeting the students and for us to help each other learn and grow!
Fun Fact: I am from Milwaukee, WI, but I plan on staying in Kansas after graduation.
Hannah Habiger with Jennifer Donovan
I grew up in Olathe, KS and am a student teacher from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I had the pleasure of observing Miss Donovan's classroom every week last semester, and will now be working alongside her at CCE until March 13th. Music has been a passion of mine my entire life, and I am so excited to share this love with the students. I've spent time in middle and high school, but elementary holds a special place in my heart. Looking forward to a wonderful quarter of making musical memories!
Fun Fact: I LOVE spicy food. One year, I dressed up as a bottle of Sriracha for Halloween.
Stephanie House with Cheryl Garretson
My name is Stephanie House. My husband and I have two boys. Xavier is in second grade and Adler is in first grade. We live in Shawnee with our cat and dog. I enjoy puzzles, painting, and reading - although I don’t have a lot of spare time for these activities.
I am a student teacher from Fort Hays State University. I will be at CCE through May 1st. I am looking forward to getting to know the students in Mrs. Garretson’s first grade class. I was a substitute before student teaching, so getting to stay with the same kids for a long period will be a nice change.
I am also earning a minor in Special Education. For the last four weeks of my time at CCE, I will be working with Amanda Morgan in the Discovery Room.
Fun Fact: I am a Tiger den leader for my local scout pack.
Jillian Sommerfeld with Sherri Fisher
Hello Clear Creek friends and family,
My name is Jillian Sommerfeld and I am a student teacher from Pittsburg State University. I am so excited to meet all of the students and their families this semester. I am extremely grateful to be learning side by side with Mrs. Fisher in first grade. I can’t wait to learn more and more every day! Thank you for letting me be apart of your community.
Fun fact: I love singing, so anytime there is room for music you will find me singing and dancing!
Christi Sprague with Shannel Congleton
I am a student teacher from Fort Hays State University. I will be at Clear Creek Elementary until May. I have previously worked with 1st graders, 4th graders, and most recently, 3rd graders. I am looking forward to working alongside Mrs. Congleton with her 3rd graders. I have also been a substitute teacher for all grade levels for many years.
Fun fact: My husband and I have 5 children together and 2 fur babies.
