Principal Post
Thanks to the 4th and 5th grade chorus members who volunteered to spread some holiday cheer by signing carols to the staff and residents of Horizons Independent Senior Living Community on Wednesday afternoon. A great time was had by all who attended and a HUGE thanks to Miss Doran and Mrs. Petelle for planning, organizing and supervising the students during this event!
Winter has quickly made its way to Bloomingdale and as a reminder to both parents and students, line up outside before school and outdoor recess will take place when the air temperature including any “wind chill” is at 10 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the winter weather. Students may participate in “winter rules,” which means playing in the snow piles during recess only if they are properly dressed in their winter gear, which includes a winter jacket, snow pants, hat, gloves and boots. It is school policy that if a student is healthy enough to attend school this student is healthy enough to go out for recess. A doctor’s note is needed in order for a student to stay in at recess.
As a reminder Bloomingdale School District 13 uses an emergency phone broadcast system and notification service throughout our school community. This service is called Blackboard Connect and enables us to communicate with parents about emergency situations including any significant weather event and the need to cancel school for the day. This system was put into practice on Monday, November 26th when school was cancelled due to inclement weather. Emergency school closing information can be sent to your family's home, work, or cell phones. We will be able to reach everyone in the district within minutes.
- When a call comes from the school (or district), your caller ID will display the school (or district) phone number.
- When listening to a message, please be aware that background noise on your answering machine could cause the system to stop and start. The system is carefully calibrated to determine whether a person or voicemail has been reached, and background noise may affect the delivery. If possible, move to a quiet area to hear the message.
- Additionally, it is important that DuJardin has all of your current telephone numbers so that you will not miss out on any important communications. Please be aware that the Blackboard Connect service cannot dial or call an extension, so be sure we have a direct line where you can be reached to get this important information.
Students will begin their winter vacation Monday, December 24th through Friday, January 4th . School will resume on Monday, January 7th . Please remind your son/daughter to bring home clothing items, needed class materials, and their winter gear. Please remind your child not to leave any food items in school and to clean out their locker/desk.

5Essentials Parent Survey
2018-19 Illinois Parent Survey
Dear Parent, The Illinois State Board of Education invites you to participate in a school improvement survey for parents. Please Note: This survey is NOT a component of the 5Essentials Organizing Schools for Improvement Survey. In this survey, you will be asked to provide feedback about your child’s school. Please consider your child’s current experience at school (i.e., 2018-2019 school year). This survey is designed to help school and district leadership improve their understanding of the parent/school relationship.
All responses are completely anonymous. Responses to anonymous surveys cannot be traced back to the respondent. Additionally, your responses will be combined with other parents from your child's school and summarized in a school report to further protect your anonymity. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you have the right to discontinue participation at any point.
If you have more than one (1) child, you may elect to participate multiple times.
The 5Essentials Parent Survey is now open. Parents are encouraged to complete this survey. Please use the following link to access the parent survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
