Activities Resume
Tips for a good resume:
1. Include school activities, community activities (include your volunteer work), job experience, and any honors or awards.
2. Type your resume using a readable font. It looks more professional.
3. Organize well using specific titles
4. Remember you are giving specific, factual information. Do not make it to wordy or long. Usually, one page is a good length.
The activities resume at educationquest.org is a great tool to use to create a good resume. You will enter in your profile information and the activities resume will give you different formats that you can use.

UNL True Red
This year, the University of Nebraska Lincoln is starting a new initiative called True Red, which is designed to reward students who apply and are admitted to UNL early this fall. It’s their way of rewarding those students for showing dedication to their studies, their university, and their future.
Students who are admitted by November 2 will be enrolled in the True Red program and will get to enjoy:
- Expedited scholarship decisions.
- Early access to the housing contract and online room reservation.*
- Early access to sign up for the New Student Enrollment orientation.*
- Membership in the True Red Giveaway Club, with giveaways such as University Bookstore gift cards, Husker apparel, electronics, and more.

Apply2College Events
Seniors are invited to come to the library on the following dates to apply to college!
October 27th - Creighton University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Midland University, Southeast Community College, and University of Nebraska Kearney
November 3rd - Northeast Community College, Central Community College, Joseph's College of Cosmetology, and University of Nebraska Omaha
The listed colleges will have representatives there to help you apply. Students can apply to other colleges not listed. Counselors will be there to provide assistance as well. Students are encouraged to come during their open periods. Please get permission and a pass from your teacher if you are leaving class.

Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program
As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives.
The National Scholarship Program is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. National Scholars receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference. There are 50 $6000 scholarships for students in Nebraska and Iowa.
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2016 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
- Be a United States citizen
The National Security Language Intiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Program
High school students ages 15-18 years old, the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program provides merit-based scholarships for eligible U.S. high school students to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. Programs are available for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. Previous language study is not required, and language learners of all levels are encouraged to apply. You can find more information about U.S. Department of State-sponsored exchange and study programs at www.exchanges.state.gov.
The 2016-17 NSLI-Y Scholarship application is now available at www.nsliforyouth.org. The application deadline is October 29, 2015 (4:00 PM EST). Please look at the eligibility requirements and the website for more information.
Kansas State College of Engineering
1. Engineering Initiative Scholarship - a student must be admitted to K-State, must enroll in a College of Engineering degree program, and also apply for scholarships (go to www.k-state.edu/sfa/scholarships/) by November 1st of their senior year.
* 24-29 ACT/3.5 GPA or 1090-1320 SAT/3.5 GPA - $2,000 Renewable for 4 years ($8,000 total)
* 30+ ACT/3.5 GPA or 1330+ SAT/3.5 GPA - $4000 Renewable for 4 years ($16,000)
2. Heritage Scholarship - $32,000 renewable scholarship over 4 years. One parent or grandparent (biological or adopted) must have graduated from K-State. Awarded to graduating seniors with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA. Eligible students receive $8,000 per year.
3. Purple and White Scholarship or Honor's Scholarship - $32,000 renewable scholarship over 4 years. Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors who have a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and 24 ACT (1090 SAT). Eligible students receive $8,000 per year.
RHOP with the Nebraska State College System
The Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) is a cooperative program between Chadron State College, Peru State College, or Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Students admitted into the RHOP program must be from a rural background. Typically, students need to demonstrate strong academic potential with preferred minimum ACT score of 24. The purpose of the program is to recruit and educate students from rural communities who plan to return to rural areas to practice. It represents a commitment and dedication to quality health care for the citizens of the state. Upon selection into the RHOP program, students who meet all the program requirements will be admitted into their specific program at the UNMC. Students are strongly encouraged and expected to practice in the rural areas of Nebraska. Students can apply to only 1 of the 3 campuses.
Benefits of the Program
If selected as a participant in the program each student will:
- Receive a full tuition waiver while enrolled at Chadron State College, Peru State College, or Wayne State College, provided the student maintains good standing within the RHOP program standards.
- Be given acceptance to the UNMC after their completion of PSC pre-professional curriculum.
- Follow a special curriculum at Peru State, or Wayne State College that will prepare the student for studies at UNMC.
- Have recognition of their desire to become a health care professional.

Chadron State College - Three seats in Clinical Lab Science, 2 seats in Dental Hygiene, 3 seats in Dentistry, 4 seats in Medicine, 5 seats in Nursing, 3 seats in Pharmacy, 3 seats in Physical Therapy, 3 seats in Physician Assistant and 2 seats in Radiology. Medicine Deadline is November 15th and all other programs are December 1st. KHOP
The Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP) is a cooperative program between the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). The purpose of the program is to recruit and educate students from rural Nebraska who are committed to returning to rural Nebraska to practice healthcare. This program represents a commitment and dedication to the education of Nebraskans and quality health care for citizens of the state.

The Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarships are intended for high achieving students who will require financial assistance in order to attend college. The Purpose of the Hagan Scholarship is to provide each recipient with the opportunity to graduate college debt free, and help each recipient obtain a practical understanding of important life skills not usually taught as a part of the school curriculum. Each scholarship is worth up to $40,000 over four years. The average four year disbursed amount is over $24,000.
