Inspiring Tomorrow's Innovators, Today!
November 29, 2020
Notes from our Director
Hello DATA community,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your family, even if it was different than your traditional holiday. As we return to school again tomorrow, there are just three weeks remaining in this first semester. Students are encouraged to login synchronously with their classes if they are not on-campus for in-person learning. Semester exams will be taking place the final week of this semester and specific exam exemption information is included below. This week there will be Josten's webinar meetings for both juniors and seniors along with their parents. Please be sure that you have registered for the meetings beforehand to receive the information needed to participate.
As we continue to work to keep all safe and healthy, masks must be worn on campus. The types of masks allowed on campus have been updated and those details have been emailed out as well as included below. Thank you for ensuring that you have your mask if you are coming to campus for in-person learning.
Thank you for reviewing the many details included below and please continue to stay safe. If you have specific questions, please feel free to reach out. Let's finish this first semester sTRong.
Stay well,
Lori Murach

Masks required on campus
Thank you for helping to keep our community safe! Face coverings help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by reducing droplets if the face covering is worn securely over the nose and mouth. Certain face coverings are more effective than others. Beginning November 30, 2020, masks with valves will not be permitted for students or employees. Gaiters and bandanas will only be permitted for outdoor use. All students, faculty staff, and visitors will be required to wear a face mask as their face covering when on NEISD property.
Semester Exam Exemption Information
Semester exam exemptions in previous years would allow all high school students with good attendance, behavior, and academic performance, to exempt up to three semester exams in any subject with an 80% or higher for each semester.
Due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, attendance requirements for exam exemptions will be waived for the 2020 – 2021 school year only. The previous baseline course semester average of 80% has changed to an 85% because attendance is not part of the semester exam exemption criteria for the 2020 – 2021 school year. All other criteria still applies.
Exam exemptions will not be allowed if:
- The student has received a “U” for conduct for the course and semester they wish to exempt;
- The student has been suspended off – campus, assigned to ISS or ISS II, or sent to an off – campus alternative setting during that semester;
- The student has failed to submit their exam exemption request through Skyward by December 9, 2020 at 4:30 pm
- The course is the first semester of an AP course: Students may not submit an exemption for the first semester of any AP Course. Students may submit an exam exemption for the second semester of an AP course only.
- The course is a Dual Credit or OnRamps course: Semester exam exemptions for these courses are not allowed.
Semester exam exemptions shall be revoked if a student fails to meet the behavior and grade criteria after the exemptions have been submitted and approved in Skyward.
2020-2021 NEISD Semester Exam Exemption FAQ
The exam exemption process will be the same as last year. Students will submit their request through Skyward. More details about the process and dates for when students can submit their request will be shared at a later date.
