Wordly Wise: We will be working on Wordly Wise Lesson 6 this week. The test over these words will be next Friday, November 17.
Writing: We will be working on persuasive writing between now and Thanksgiving. Students will be taking the perspective of a plump turkey who is convincing the farmer not to eat him. They are doing a great job and have creative ideas so far!
Math:
We will be wrapping up Unit 2 this week with lessons about types of quadrilaterals, finding symmetry, and number patterns. Study guides for this unit were passed out Thursday of last week and will be due this Thursday, November 9. The unit test will be on Tuesday, November 14.
Indiana History:
We will be reviewing the regions of Indiana by making torn paper maps in class this week.
Reading:
I have started reading the book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, aloud to the kids. We will be reviewing fiction reading strategies as we read this book. The movie of this book comes out in theaters November 17.
Transportation
If your child has a change of transportation at any point, please either send in a note or send me an e-mail with that change. If it is a long term change, you can just send a single note that says, "Anna will be attending play practice every Tuesday and Thursday from October 1 to November 20." That will keep you from needing to send in a new note multiple times each week. I do have a list of choir kids from Mr. Budd already. Per ZCS policy, if I do not have a note indicating a transportation change at the end of the day, we will do our best to reach a parent. If a parent cannot be reached, students will be sent home the way they typically go home.
Food Drive
Our annual Stonegate Food Drive will help fill the Boone County Food Pantry the week of November 6-10. We will be focusing more on the number of families we will be feeding rather than the number of cans collected. Boone County feeds around 120 families a week and to feed them it takes roughly 30 cans of food per family along with meats and other necessities. Students can bring in donations to their classrooms where parent volunteers and student ambassadors will collect and count the items each day. Clean out your pantries and get your kids involved!
We are going to have Friday, November 10th be FOOD PANTRY GIFT CARD DAY! You can purchase gift cards at Meijer that say "Zionsville Food Pantry". However, any gift cards are gladly accepted to help the pantry purchase items needed to help fill the needs of the families.
Items that are most needed are macaroni and cheese, canned pears, all kinds of soup (creamy, chunky), spaghetti sauce, cake mixes, brownie mixes, peanut butter, cereal, jello or pudding, canned pasta (think Chef Boyardee), canned chili, canned chicken, canned corn, canned sweet potatoes, individual packets of oatmeal, sleeves of crackers (think Saltines), granola bars, toothbrushes, and laundry detergent in no order.
We will need help organizing and sorting the food that week. Please consider helping out with this event! Please sign up here.
