What's Happening in Kindergarten!

We are so excited for Spring to get here! This month we will be learning about personal body safety, living and non-living things, and spring. We will also celebrate St. Patrick's Day and Dr. Seuss' Birthday!

During our Language Arts block, the classes remain engaged in their guided reading rotations. This month they will learn the sounds of the letters: /Ll/, /Kk/, /Uu/, and /Gg/. In reading groups, we continue to practice long and short vowel sounds, as well as word families, and inflectional endings. Remember, it’s important to have your child read aloud to you every night. But don’t stop there; ask your children questions about the book too! For example, “What was the problem in the story? What was the main idea? How did the character feel? Why do you think that they feel this way?” Reading should be incorporated into your evening routine so that the kids become exposed to it everyday!

In our math classes, the students are currently reviewing many skills. We are learning how to decompose numbers less than or equal to five in pairs in more than one-way. For example, 5= 2+3 and 5= 1+4. This is a concept we will continue to learn throughout the year and our goal is that by the end of kindergarten, children will be able to decompose numbers through ten. In addition, we are working on addition and subtraction facts through five. By the end of third quarter, we would like your children to be able to fluently add within five.

Volunteering: We need you!

Please remember to sign up to volunteer in the classroom! We even have available spots to volunteer in Mrs. Trudden's Technology class. As the year goes on we have less and less volunteers, we really need you!

Also, remember to come in during your child's lunch and recess time!
