Welcome to Week 21!
Mask Update!
Following Friday’s court action related to the optional masking of children, HCPS confirmed that our existing face mask requirements remain in place.
All students and employees must wear masks indoors and while on the bus. The only exceptions will be mealtimes or during previously identified activities. Recent accommodations based on parent mask choice are no longer supported, and any student who refuses to wear a mask will face disciplinary action.
We have had great success with proper mask use this school year, and I expect that will continue. I appreciate all that you are doing to support your family’s health and the safety of our entire school community.
Thank you for taking the time to read this week's news. Please be in touch with any questions or concerns!

February is Black History Month!
Since 1976, the month of February has been designated as Black History Month throughout the United States. Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society—from activists and civil rights pioneers such as Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Rosa Parks to leaders in industry, politics, science, culture and more. This year’s theme, Black Health and Wellness, considers activities, rituals, and initiatives that Black communities have practiced in an effort to maintain health and wellness. This theme connects to Wilder Middle School’s focus of social-emotional growth and student/staff well-being. The Equity and Diversity Committee will host a celebratory week from February 14th-18th during which presentations will be given to enlighten, honor, and celebrate the great accomplishments of African Americans. Additionally, throughout the school, there will be picturesque bulletin boards and inspiring showcase displays that reflect the integrity and pride of great African Americans.

Attendance
It is important that students attend school each day and arrive on time to ensure they are receiving all of their instruction. Please see below for important information regarding attendance.
· School starts at 8:05 each day. Students are considered tardy if they arrive at 8:30 or later.
· Notify the school by calling the front office at (804) 515-1100 if your child will be absent from school. If we are not notified of an absence, your child will be marked absent unexcused automatically.
· Our attendance team regularly monitors student attendance. Families of students with five or more unexcused absences will be required to meet to develop a support plan for attendance.
· If there is anything we can do to support your efforts in making sure your child is at school every day, please reach out to your child’s school counselor or our Family Advocate, Mrs. Clarke!
