METHACTON HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: February 1, 2024
If the district calls for a Flexible Instruction Day, please understand:
Students should make every effort to complete and submit assignments on Google Classroom within the normal school hours as this flexible instruction day is in lieu of an in-person school day. Students will not be penalized for work that needs to be submitted later due to accessibility issues as long as the assignment is received within three days of our return to school.

FAFSA Help Night in the LGI
The Methacton High School Counseling office is offering support with your FAFSA completion. Available January on the U.S. Government’s website, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is required for students seeking financial aid from colleges and universities. On Thursday, February 08, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, representatives from the Montgomery County Community College’s Office of Financial Aid will be hosting a workshop to assist you in completing your FAFSA application. This event will be capped at 20 families
Prior to the meeting, families must:
· Create an FSA ID (one for the student and one for the parent(s)

· Start the FAFSA Application and complete as much as possible prior to the 2/8 workshop

Representatives will be available to answer questions specific to YOUR APPLICATION. It is important that you have started your FAFSA application, have a familiarity of the site and are prepared with specific questions concerning your FAFSA.
ITEMS NEEDED FOR FAFSA COMPLETION
- 2022 Federal tax returns and W-2s for both student and parents (if dependent*)
- Social Security Numbers for both student and parents (if dependent*)
- Your Alien Registration number if you are an eligible non-citizen
- Your driver's license number if you have one
- Banking statements including information on savings, investments, business and farm assets for yourself and your parents (if dependent**)
- You and your parents (if dependent**) FSA User ID and password* - You must apply for this prior to the FAFSA night

Our Backpack Program Needs Support:

We could use your help restocking the shelves for the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program serves district families in need with supplemental food and non-food items. This program helps create food stability for breakfast and lunch when our students are not in school. Please consider contributing and donating items to the program to continue to sustain the program. Items can be donated directly to the school or you can place an order through Amazon and ship it directly to our school from the Amazon page. Please remember to select, “No Weekend Delivery.”

Reminder: All report card grades for MP 2 and moving forward will be noted as the earned grade on the report card; for grades earned under a 50%, they will NOT rounded up to a 50%! Teachers will be reviewing this with students to remind them of this procedure. Any questions about this- please ask your student and/or their teacher.

Grades 9-11 Student Scheduling Timeline (2023-2024 for 2024-2025 school year)
Second week of February - Counselors Speak to current MHS Students in Social Studies Classes grades 9, 10, 11
Second week of February - Course Recommendation Process by Teachers - completed by teachers after grades are posted on 2/5/24. Parents should log on to PS to check these recommendations.
February 12-March 18 - Counselors meet with students 1:1 to do course selection. Parent verification form will be online. (Check SmartPass for appointment!) Students will be directed to contact parent before leaving meeting to inform parent selections are live in PS. Online parent verification form available for parents to review course requests and e-sign.
Feb 21-28: Counselors meet w/ 11th graders to pick classes for 12th grade
Feb 29-March 7: Counselors meet w/ 10th graders to pick classes for 11th grade
March 5: Counselors meet w/ 8th graders to pick classes for 9th grade
March 11-March 18: Counselors meet with 9th grades to pick classes for 10th grade
PARENT DUE DATES:

Senior Banquet Tickets
Senior Banquet Ticket Sales
ATTENTION SENIORS!!!! Ticket sales for the senior banquet will start the week we return from holiday break: January 4 - Jan 19, during lunches. Tickets are $50. Cash or Checks made out to Methacton Activities Fund will be accepted. This is a SENIOR-ONLY event.
The senior banquet will be held on February 23, 2024 at Normandy Farms at 7pm.

Citadel Credit Union is honoring teachers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Lancaster and Philadelphia counties with the Citadel Heart of Learning Award. The Citadel Heart of Learning Award is one of the areas longest standing initiatives.
If you know a teacher who truly cares about their students and puts in the extra effort to enhance their educational experience, please submit a nomination. Prizes will total $60,000 for the best teachers in the region along with a glass heart award for each winner.

Important Information for 8th Graders:
Monday, February 12th
High School Counselors will meet with Arcola students during their science classes in the Skyview cafeteria. Counselors will review HS selections and make sure students completely understand how to fill out the cards for their classes. Students will review and complete HS course selections. Selection cards will be checked for completeness and accuracy then collected by counselors. They will be redistributed to the students prior to their scheduling on March 5th.
Tuesday, March 5th
High School Counselors will meet with students by team during the following times. Students will be assigned to one of six rooms based on their name. Students will schedule their course requests with their respective counselor. The rooms will be identified at a later date.

PD 4 (10:41 – 11:26) – Independence

Once again we have partnered with Student Services Company to provide our seniors with Methacton High School’s Custom Caps & Gowns and Official Graduation Products. They have also put together a short video presentation to explain these programs.

Graduation 2024
Graduation Reminder- School Obligations Up Until Graduation Day!
As a reminder, our graduation date is set for Tuesday, June 11 at 4pm. Full details will be released closer to the date. Until then, please note that students have mandatory graduation practices at school leading up to graduation, including Friday June 7, Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11. The graduation parade is also scheduled for Monday, June 10. Please do not make any plans or book any trips that overlap these days as practice is mandatory on all three days for students participating in the graduation ceremony. Thank you!
