Week of October 17, 2016

Math

We will continue with place value. This week we will begin using our understanding of place value to fluently add multi-digit whole numbers using the standard addition and subtraction algorithm.

Literacy

We will continue our focus on finding key details in text, making inferences, identifying character traits with evidence, finding themes, and using context clues to find the meaning of words or phrases.

Science/Health

We will work on learning about nutrients in food, creating healthy meal plans using MyPlate, and reading food labels so we can make healthy choices. Students will use Discovery Education, which provides a variety of videos and tools for this concept.

Steele Creek YMCA

Hello Parents!

I am Mia Johnson, the Events Coordinator for Steele Creek YMCA. Every 3rd Friday of the month, we have an event for the 4th and 5th graders called “4th and 5th Grade Fun Night”! These events are held by the Steele Creek YMCA to provide your child a safe and well supervised outlet to hang out with old friends as well as make new ones. This month, we will be having this event at Lake Wylie Elementary School, however all schools are welcome! We are theming this event as a Halloween Party, so wear your best costume and come enjoy our first event of the school year! We will have 1.00 Concessions (Candy, Drinks, Chips, Pizza), a Haunted Bus, Music, Sports, and more. Admission will be $8.00 per child. I hope to see all of you out on Friday October 14th from 6:30p-9:30p!
