April 2022

A Note from the FMS Administrative Team

Dear FMS Families,

We hope that each of you enjoyed a restful and relaxing spring break! The time for rejuvenation was much needed. Since our return, our students and staff have hit the ground running as we head into the final quarter of the 2021-2022 school year! Fourth quarter will be busy, especially as we near May, during which we will administer the annual MAP assessment along with our final iReady tests of the year. For now, we are looking forward to settling into our five-day routine as we embark on the home stretch! Please know how much we appreciate your continued support at home.

Dr. Laura Rowe, Principal

Mr. Kevin Kuehl, 7th Grade Assistant Principal

Mr. Stan Johnson, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

Upcoming Dates

There will be no school for students on Friday, April 15, as staff will be engaged in professional learning throughout the course of the day.

Monday, April 18, is a Late Start Day. So as to allow staff time to collaborate and plan, the academic day will begin two-hours later than normal. Buses will be running accordingly; therefore, students should be at their stops exactly two hours after their typically scheduled time. The start of the school day will be at 9:35 AM.

MAP Testing Information

We are currently preparing to administer the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) to our seventh- and eighth-grade students. The assessment, which is required by the state, will be administered throughout the following dates:

Seventh Grade Students:

Monday, May 2-Friday, May 6

Eighth Grade Students:

Monday, May 9-Friday, May 13

Thank you for your help in making sure that students are in attendance during their designated testing days. In the event that students are absent, we will work with them on an individual basis to make up any missed portions of the MAP. We appreciate your continued support!

Congratulations, Mrs. Debbie Sethaler!

It is with tremendous pleasure that we name Mrs. Debbie Sethaler, Principal’s Secretary, as Frontier Middle School’s 2021-2022 Support Staff of the Year. To say that Debbie goes above and beyond each and every day would be an understatement, as the time and commitment that she dedicates to our students and staff far exceeds what is required within her written job description. She is incredibly driven and is committed to making sure all tasks associated with her position have been completed to perfection and long before their respective deadlines. Debbie never hesitates to dive in to help our students, staff, and families, wherever it is needed, and she does so with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She is a ray of sunshine throughout the building, particularly within the front office, where she works hard to help all who enter feel as though they are welcome and belong at Frontier Middle School.

WSD Summer School

Registration is now open for the 2022 Summer School programs for WSD students entering grades K-12 in the fall. The WSD will be offering a Summer School Program for K-5 students called Summer Journey, which is free of charge for our families and is an exciting approach to learning for our students. Middle school summer enrichment classes for students in grades 6-8, and high school credit recovery & advancement courses for students grades 9-12 will also be offered. All summer school (K-12) will be held June 7 - June 30. For more information and to register, please visit the WSD website: #WSDlearns

FMS Artist of the Month

We are proud to name eighth-grade student Maddie Kiem as the FMS Artist of the Month! Maddie is incredibly talented when it comes to creating art. She specializes in drawing and sketching, especially animation. We celebrate Maddie this month, not only for her outstanding images but also for her dedication to drawing. She can often be found sketching in her journal at any opportunity she receives. She is a shining example of incredible creativity.

Raptor Security System Information

Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Effective January 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.

What does that mean for you?

  • When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.

  • Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.

  • Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.

Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!

Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
