My Diagnosis
for 8th Hour GTT
My Patient
My patient is Micah. He is 14 and he is active in his community, has a very competitive spirit, and had recently participated in a hamburger eating contest a week ago at a local fair. He has been vomiting, has had diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
Vital Signs
Micah has been showing vital signs for Salmonella. He has been vomiting, has had diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Those are three symptoms for Salmonella.
Probable Pathogen
The picture above is a Salmonella cell provided by www.fightbac.org. The mode of the infection is probably from the hamburger eating contest Micah had participated in a week ago.
Contagious or Internal
Salmonella can still be contagious from several days to several weeks after they've been infected. While your recovering, be sure not to share food or a drink with anyone else.
Common Treatment Plan for Salmonella
To relieve cramping, you can use Imodium A-D. For some home remedies, drink lots of water and stay hydrated. For children, you can use Pedialyte, a hydrator.
Prevention for Samlonella
Ways that you can prevent Salmonella of happening again, Cook poultry, ground beef, and eggs thoroughly. Do not eat or drink foods containing raw eggs, or raw (unpasteurized) milk. If you are served under cooked meat, poultry or eggs in a restaurant, don't worry about telling the servers and sending it back.
