Digital Learning Day at Centennial High School

Digital Learning Day will be an opportunity for teachers and students to engage in a meaningful online teaching and learning experience. Students will complete the work outside the classroom building, and assignments will be similar to the work they complete during class. Teachers will personalize instruction by offering a variety of digital learning opportunities for students.

What Is Our Plan?

Before Digital Learning Day

**Students should contact their teachers if they do not have a device or access to the internet at home. Students should ask for assistance if they do not know how to access assignments via Google Classroom. Students should plan to take their device home Thursday, March 8, 2018.


**Teachers will discuss the Digital Day assignment with students on or before Thursday, March 8, 2018. Teachers will discuss with students the importance of managing their time wisely so they have ample time to complete all assignments.

Digital Learning Day - Friday, March 9, 2018

**Students will have an assignment for each of their classes and will be expected to complete all assignments if they have a device and access to the internet.


**Teachers will post the assignments in Google Classroom no later than 9 a.m. Friday morning. Teachers will be available Friday morning 9-10 a.m. and Friday afternoon 1-2 p.m. to address questions and assist students via email.

After Digital Learning Day

**Students - If you do not have a device or if you do not have internet access, you still will be allowed to submit assignments up to three days upon returning to school.


**Teachers will begin reviewing assignments and giving feedback to students upon their return. Teachers will meet with students who were unable to complete assignments due to no internet access or device.


**Parents - Please email your child's teachers if your child did not have access to the internet Friday, March 9th.

When Is Digital Learning Day?

**Centennial High School's Digital Learning Day will be March 9, 2018.

Where Will Digital Learning Day Be Held?

**Students should not report to school. Teachers and other staff will be at Centennial High School during normal school hours.

How Will Parents Be Notified About Digital Learning Day?

**Parents will receive an email from the principal through School Messenger. This email will include important information such as the date and types of assignments that will be given.

What Devices Can Be Used to Access the Assignments?

**Students can complete the assignments by using their Surface that was issued to them by the school. Students also can use home desktops, laptops, I Pads, or possibly their cell phones.

How Will Students Access the Assignments?

**Google Classroom will be the platform that students use to access assignments and post completed work. All teachers at Centennial know how to access and post assignments to Google Classroom.

How Will Teachers Use Instructional Technology?

**Teachers will post assignments to Google Classroom. Just as during a normal school day, each teacher uses different instructional methods and techniques in his/ her classroom. This day will be no different.

**Teachers will create a variety of assignments including both low prep and high prep assignments. An example of a low prep assignment would be students logging into the ALEKS system and completing math problems that cover the standard they're currently working on in class.

**Any example of a high prep assignment would be a teacher creating an online module for students to complete, creating a video explaining key concepts, and/ or answering questions via Skype.

What Will Happen If My Child Doesn't Have Internet Access at Home?

**Students who do not have a device or access to technology will have three days upon returning to school to submit completed assignments.

How Will Students Who Receive Accommodations Be Supported?

**Students with Individualized Learning Plans, 504 Plans, and TPC Plans will be afforded every accommodation and modification that is written in their educational plans either before or upon their return from the Digital Learning Day.

How Can Students Effectively Manage Their Time That Day?

**Students have six classes. Each teacher will create an assignment that will take students approximately thirty minutes to complete.

**Students should plan to spend approximately three hours to complete all assignments. **Students can complete all assignments at one time or can complete assignments throughout the day.

**If teachers create cross curricular activities, they will communicate this information to their students on or before Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Why Is It Necessary to Have a Digital Learning Day March 9th?

March 9th's Digital Learning Day is a great opportunity for school and district leaders to collect feedback to help plan for future digital learning days. By having digital learning days, we can ensure students do not miss valuable instructional time when schools close because of weather events.
